MBA Admission Dilemma for CAT, XAT 60-80 percentilers; must know some facts
It will be better to proceed with the MBA admission opportunity in 2015 as you may not be sure of scoring a high sectional as well as overall percentile in CAT 2015/XAT 2016
Admission or no admission in a management programme after scoring a percentile below 80 is sure a matter of great confusion with no concrete way to go ahead. If I take admission in an average B school what future I would have and if I do not go ahead with the available offer of admission what guarantee do I have to get much higher score in next session.
Another truth is that I have to put in precious one year to wait for the next session scores. The issue is whether ample options are available in 2015 so that if I am offered admission by some fairly good B school in 2015 itself, how good it would be to join the same.
Both the options are open before you. However it will be better to proceed with the MBA admission opportunity in 2015 as you may not be sure of scoring a high sectional as well as overall percentile in CAT 2015/XAT 2016 and get admission in an IIM/XLRI in 2016
No surety to get IIM/XLRI in 2016
MBAUniverse.com receives many such stories regularly where a candidate who scored 99+ percentile in CAT 2013 with a good sectional percentile wanted to improve his score in CAT 2014 as he had uneven sectional percentile. However in CAT 2014, despite being a faculty at one of the top preparation centres in the country, the score reduced to 97 with high percentile in one section and very low percentile in other section. Same result has been repeated in XAT 2015. Now the admission opportunity is not available either at any of the IIMs or XLRI. Analyzing his performance, the candidate now repents that he should have accepted admission offer in 2014 and should have avoided the wastage of one precious year.
MBA in 2015: Grab Admission opportunity in good B school
Opportunity to excel can strike anywhere. It is not necessary that only IIM or XLRI can give you the best career opportunity. There are number of good B schools with large and successful alumni base, offering good career opportunities. In fact keeping yourself better exposed and one among the toppers of the B school may provide you with better opportunities. PGDM/MBA education is more based on your qualitative learning and utilizing the same for the future than simply class room learning. A good B school can offer all such opportunities, if you are able to locate one of your choice out of the many offering you admission.
Apart from IIMs there are good B schools that may not consider sectional percentile scores. If you have applied or can be quick enough to apply with a score between 60 to 80 percentile to the respective B schools, you may expect to be shortlisted by a good B school like TAPMI, Great Lakes, BIMTECH, IFMR, IFIM and many more. These B schools offer good learning experience and good placement also. These B schools have good ranking in the country and stand better in some cases than any new IIM. If you do not wish to risk another year and have scored the desired percentile you may apply to them and proceed to pursue MBA with one of them.
