Dr.Ranjan Banerjee an alumnus of IIT Bombay and IIM Calcutta, has taken over as the new dean of S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) Mumbai on June 6, 2015.

 

Dr.Banerjee will lead an Institute with a rich heritage, a sprawling campus in the heart of Mumbai and a vast faculty pool that teaches in multiple MBA programmes that attract more than 1,000 participants each year.

 

Immediately after taking over the office Dr.Banerjee announced a series of steps that would make him approachable, enable a two-way communications process, create an environment of mutual trust and build a culture of working together with the faculty, staff, alumni, students and other stakeholders to chart the way forward. In one of his first interviews Dr.Banerjee said “If SPJIMR as an Institution becomes great and touches greater heights, then I will not have done it, I may have catalysed it, I may have created the environment but we are only as good as what our people are and what they do on a day-to-day basis.”

 

In a message on the SPJIMR website, Dr.Banerjee says “Each day so far has been enjoyable, challenging and full of promise. There is much to do, and so much strength to build upon.”

 

One of the first formal functions of Dr.Banerjee was a welcome address to batch 2015-2017 of PGDM, which is SPJIMR’s oldest programme.   In his message to the new batch, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 9, Dr.Banerjee said: “At SPJIMR, we stress a lot on helping you find your moral compass. I would urge you to pay as much attention to the values component that underlines our curriculum, as you do to the more conventional academic input. This will stand you in good stead for the challenges that life will throw at you in the years to come.”

 

A BTech from IIT Bombay, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a PhD in Management from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA Dr Banerjee has worked for leading FMCG companies like Asian Paints, Vadilal and Hindustan Unilever.  He was Group COO of Insta Worldwide. His last assignment is as Founder & CEO of Renaissance Strategic Consultants. Dr. Banerjee consults for leading Indian and multinational companies like BASF, Legrand, Vodafone, AXA, Philips, Madura Garments.

 

For the past 19 years he has been teaching courses on Marketing, Strategy, Behavioural Economics, Innovation at leading Indian and international institutes like IIM Calcutta, Great Lakes, Symbiosis, IIT-SOM, Singapore Management University and Carlson School of Management, USA. He has published articles in Harvard Business Review online.

 

Dr. Banerjee brings with him a rare combination of extensive business, corporate training, academic and consulting experience and insight.
