Centre for Business Management, Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida organized the India HR Summit 08 on January 12 in New Delhi.

BIMTECH hosts HR Summit on Targeting Excellence

The theme of the summit was Targeting Excellence The HR Way. The Summit attracted well-known industry practitioners to share their experiences.

The speakers at the summit included corporate leaders like Dr. Santrupt B Misra, Director, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd.; Dr. Pritam Singh, Professor of Eminence, MDI; G.P.Rao, Head HR & IR (Polyester Sector), Reliance Industries Ltd.; S.Y.Siddiqui, Exec. Director- HR, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.; Dr. Shalini Sarin, GM - People Development & Strategic Initiatives, Cairn Energy PLC; Alok Sheopurkar, Head HDFC Asset Management Co. Ltd.; Ashok Grover, Chief Human Resource Officer, JBM Group; Aquil Busrai, Exec. Director HR, IBM India Pvt. Ltd.; Narendra Nath Akhouri, Sr. VP-HR, Hero Honda Motors; Monica Mudgal, VP HR, Max New York Life Insurance Co. Ltd.; Suresh Dutt Tripathi, President Corporate HR, SRF Ltd.; Rajesh Sehgal, AVP HR, Infotech Enterprises Ltd. and Biju Sebastian, Head Corporate HR, Salora International.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH said We, at BIMTECH are holding the 3rd HR Summit believing that a confluence of the best minds from the industry and academia was much needed to bring the HR challenges of the future into focus. We are confident that BIMTECHs 3rd HR Summit will turn out to be a roaring success, we also realized that the field of Human Resource Management is very challenging - thereby on a continuous basis we need to provide such platforms by hosting series of discussions, that would lead to clarity and on how to manage the complexities that govern human behavior in an organization.

Dr. Santrupt B Misra, Director, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd. said,Todays organisations need radical innovators who are passionate about what they do and who are willing to rock the boat and make a big difference. These people also need to understand the future and how to leap-frog established thinking and how to grow markets without losing sight of the values that built a business in the first place. The winning formula is that we have to create more professional and intellectual freedom the freedom to think, he added.

BIMTECHs HR Summit involved 2 plenary sessions and a panel discussion. It included themes like Future of HR Emerging Trends; Integrating Human Capital for Organizational Excellence and Making Differences Work: Managing Workforce Diversity.

BIMTECHs HR Summit brought out key aspects on how to keep high performers motivated and thereby becoming more productive in an organisation also the fact that in todays seamless world, it is the people that are the biggest strength in an organisation and managing them well can really give a company an unassailable competitive advantage globally.

Guest of honour Padam Shree Dr. Pritam Singh, Professor of Eminence, MDI said HR is the most important ingredient, without which an organisation is incomplete. In fact nowadays HR is not primarily restricted to the four walls of the HR department but is spread across all the departments in the organisation. So such an important function has to be dealt with elegance and conviction.

Talking about the future of HR and emerging trends in the first plenary session, Aquil Busrai, Executive Director, HR, IBM India Pvt, Ltd said, The present has a great bearing on the future. So organisations need to focus on planning for HR activities of an organisation. HR as a function is now transcending into Change Management and building a strong brand equity for the organisation.

Adding to the same, Ashok Grover, Chief Human Resource Officer, JBM Group said Re-designing, re-engineering, re-constructing and now re-imagining is playing a vital role in handling organisations. Imagination is something that comes out of the inner core activity. Rajesh Sehgal, AVP-HR, Infotech Enterprises and Monica Mudgal, VP-HR, Max New York Life Insurance Co. were the other speakers in the session chaired by R. J. Masilamani, former MD of TIMEX India.

Narendra Nath Akhouri, Sr. VP-HR, Hero Honda Motors gave valuable insights on the issue. He also shared his views on the existing trend in Human Capital Management (HCM) and its sensitivity to changing internal situations during major periods of change.

Closing the session Prof. Sumit Chaudhuri highlighted the need to hire and integrate the talent of different skills.
