CAP 2016 for 9 IIMs over: Over 3500 attend to choose the preferred IIM; know how to decide

More than 3500 candidates participated in Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 for admission to PGP 2016-18 batch in 9 IIMs during February 15 to March 4, 2016 in 5 different cities. The CAP 2016 round is now over and the final admission offers from all these 9 IIMs will be sent to the selected candidates shortly on the basis of their performance in WAT and PI rounds.

Out of the 19 IIMs, 9 IIMs participated in Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 coordinated by IIM Kashipur. The scores obtained by the candidates in order of merit will be forwarded to each of these 9 IIMs who will issue the admission offers to the suitable candidates as per their admission criteria.

Sharing the unique features in CAP 2016, Dr Gautam Sinha, Director IIM Kashipur , the CAP 2016 coordinating IIM says For the first time in the history of CAP we have nine participating IIMs and the need to reconcile the older participants with the newer entrants was never greater. We took extra care to ensure that the views of all the participating IIMs were given equal weight. Other than that, there will always be some new issues while handling a process like this, which the predecessors might not have experienced before. We alsoencountereda fewthings that we had to solve on the fly. Overall, this entire process was a learning experience for us too, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The participating IIMs in CAP 2016 are IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM BodhGaya, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Amritsar. Except IIM Rohtak, all the 8 IIMs shortlisted candidates on the basis of same criteria. According to the PGP 2016 Admission Notice issued by IIM Kashipur Among the 9 participating IIMs the shortlisting criteria for 8 IIMs, except IIM Rohtak are same.

Admission dilemma with offers from all 9 IIMs After the CAP 2016 round is over, each of the 9 IIMs will take the PI & WAT score of the candidates shortlisted by them and combine it with other scores like CAT score, Profile score and any other score to make their own individual merit list to make final offers to the candidates.

Only the PI & WAT are conducted commonly by the 9 new IIMs. The final merit list of candidates will be arrived at by each IIM according to its own selection criteria.

You will start receiving admission offers from one or more than one IIM in next few days. Each of the 9 IIMs will ask you to send in the acceptance of admission offer and deposit the fee by a particular date. If you have not made up your mind, which IIM out of 9 you would prefer, it is high time to mull over it and arrive at the decision. The lingering on or delaying the decision may make you lose your admission chance as IIMs would accommodate other admission seekers from the waiting list.

How to arrive at the right decision It is advisable to prepare the list of new IIMs in order of preference. The criteria and parameters on which you are supposed to decide in favour of the preferred IIMs could be the Alumni base; fee structure; faculty; placement; infrastructure among others.

Let us know about each of the 9 IIMs to arrive at the decision-
