You are neither elevated after scoring 500 nor you have gone down after scoring 300 in May MAT 2016 as the MAT score accepting B-schools can offer your admission with both the scores.
If you are interested to pursue MBA in 2016 based on May MAT 2016 score, many B schools in all parts of country could still offer you admission in their various MBA programmes

If you are searching for an IIM or XLRI or other top rated B-school like FMS, MDI or SPJIMR after scoring 500 or 600 in May MAT 2016, you are running after a mirage only. The sooner you get rid of this illusion, the better it will be to understand the hard reality in regard to getting into an MBA with low or high MAT May 2016 exam scores.

No doubt you have good MBA options, if not the best like IIMs, still open for admission across the country on the basis of MAT May 2016 exam scores, you are neither elevated after scoring 500 nor you have gone down after scoring 300.

Please remember that 330 B-schools present in the list of AIMA and accepting May MAT 2016 scores stand almost on the same ground with slight variation. You will be lucky if you take a prompt decision and grab the MBA seat in your preferred B-school accepting MAT score.

MAT score with limited options; decide quickly
If you delay the decision, you may have to approach some other lower rung B-school with your score. But yes, you have good MBA options in Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad where May MAT 2016 scores would be accepted. Some of them are worth your dream B-schools. It is therefore high time to decide now or get ready to prepare for some other MBA entrance for admission in 2017, in case you think you can hit the ball to the goal otherwise one more year will go waste.

Since high scores in CAT or XAT imply that you could be shortlisted by IIMs or XLRI among other top rated B-schools, test takers go on mulling over as more options are open for them. But if you go through the list of B-schools who accept MAT scores, you do not find any of the 19 IIMs; SPJIMR; FMS; MDI; IMI; IMT; TAPMI; NITIE; XLRI; XIMB or any other such B-school.

Hence, there is no point to go on waiting when you have the list of B-schools before you and you are well aware that despite scoring very high or little low, same options will remain available to you.

Don’t go by AIMA claim
AIMA claims that hundreds of B schools are accepting May MAT 2016 scores but with admission season in most of the B schools over, you can either hold the high scores of May MAT 2016 for admission in 2017 (as the scores are valid for 1 year) or explore admission opportunities in other B schools accepting May MAT 2016 scores.

500 or 300: Both in same boat
Rest assured the same B-school who is offering admission with May MAT 2016 score of 500 would offer admission with a score of 300 also. Both the candidates are in the same boat. The difference could come out when you start getting high or low scores in the classroom and later on, being a topper of your class you may get better placement over your peers in the final year.

As of now, the admission is the prime concern which you can resolve if you wake up quickly and choose the preferred B-school accepting MAT scores.

MAT percentile calculation
Calculation of percentile in MAT 2016 May exam is based on the score of 4 out of 5 components of Entrance test. 200 questions carried 1 mark each with ¼ negative marking. The maximum score of 200 in MAT is taken as the composite score of 800 on a scale of 1 to 100.

The cut off score in the B schools would imply the selection would be made if other parameters are also the same. For example if there are 10 students with the same score and are applying to a B school where only 4 seats are vacant, the candidate with better profile, work experience, higher age and gender diversity will be given preference.  Here you get preference with other parameters instead of only MAT scores.

What do I do now with MAT scores? Understand well
MBAUniverse.com has been receiving numerous queries from May MAT 2016 takers in regard to future course of action to be taken after scoring as high as 98-99 percentile. Which B schools they could get now? Should they go for admission or try their luck in 2017?

We share below the advisory on future course of action as well as the admission options in good B schools in 2016 to save one more year of preparation.

Fact-1: Admission in few good B schools open in Delhi, Bangalore, Pune
Despite such high scores with 99+ percentile, many B schools accepting MAT 2016 scores have closed their admission process although they may accept the score for admission 2017.

However, there are still good B-schools where MBA admission process is still open in Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. It is expected that they would also close it shortly as most of them propose to begin their academic session in the last week of June or first week of July 2016.

Fact-2: B-schools in Maharashtra also to accept MAT score
Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra has announced that the candidates with MAT scores are eligible to be considered for MBA/MMS admission in Maharashtra B-schools through CAP provided they have registered for MAHCET 2016.

The catch however is that DTE Maharashtra has not announced whether it would consider May MAT 2016 scores. If it happens you may be considered for admission to JBIMS, SIMSREE, KJ Somaiya, PUMBA, NL Dalmiya, DSIMS, SIES, METSOB, Singhad, DY Patil. Please remember it needs your registration for MAHCET 2016 so that you are eligible to participate in CAP 2016 round.

Unless and until the May MAT 2016 scores are accepted in CAP round of DTE Maharashtra, you have to explore admission opportunities in other B-schools on the basis of your May MAT 2016 scores.

Don’t worry about low scores: Applicability is across the country
If you are interested to pursue MBA in 2016 based on May MAT 2016 score, many B schools in all parts of country could still offer you admission in their various MBA programmes. In fact your low or high scores would not matter much while exploring admission in these B-schools.

The admission can also be sought in the comparatively new campuses of some of the top rated B schools. It will be interesting to know that some of the highly ranked B schools like BIMTECH do not offer admission on the basis of MAT scores in their old campuses but in their comparatively new campuses they are offering admissions based on May MAT 2016 scores, for example you may explore admission opportunity in BIMTECH Bhubaneshwar.

Whether this generosity would continue in future can’t be assured as it may vanish after some time when more candidates start seeking admission in them. If you think you should go for MBA now, you may exercise admission option quickly in such B schools as the learning may not be much different and ofcourse, the B-school carries the great brand name also.
