SNAP 2016: GK Revamped with 30 marks - a score booster; section limited to study of last 2 year happenings

SNAP 2016 will no longer ask you to study unlimited wide and vast topics to crack the General Knowledge section. On the contrary, The General Knowledge section has been much simplified in SNAP 2016 by totally revamping the section and offering good opportunity to score high and improve your percentile.

Out of 150 total questions in MCQ form in SNAP 2016 carrying maximum 150 marks, there will be 30 questions carrying 30 marks in Current Affairs section. In the changed pattern, with regular study of 15 to 20 minutes a day, you can add 30 marks to your score in SNAP 2016.

Besides, as against other exams where no syllabus or study area for GK is defined, SNAP 2016 has clearly provided the framework of your GK study by limiting it to last 2 years of current affairs. Aspirants preparing for SNAP 2016 should understand that they have to change their preparation strategy to ace the GK section in view of the changes else they will be beating about the bush and may lose their score instead of gaining from this revamped section which carries 30 MCQs with a weightage of 30 marks out of total 150 in the test.

GK Section: Title changed
Name of the section has been changed from General Awareness: General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Business Scenario to more simple one and is termed as Current Affairs. Symbiosis International University (SIU) Pune, the SNAP 2016 conducting authority has specified that the section will be limited to last 2 years of current affairs questions.

GK Study limited within 2014-16 period
In the revamped SNAP 2016 test structure, you need not study the conventional or the national & global happenings which go back beyond 2 years. Termed as Current Affairs this General Knowledge section will require you to study all the happenings national or global upto past 2 years. Accordingly, your study area is specified and you can limit your studies by changing your preparation strategy.

To be on safer side, according to SNAP 2016 preparation expert and mentor Prof S K Agarwal, your study of Current Affairs should include the period beginning from the last half of 2014 to the 1st week of December, 2016. You need not prepare your Current Affairs part for the period before 2014 nor beyond 1st week of December 2016 as the test paper for SNAP 2016 would be prepared by then.

You may not expect a question on what happened in 2010 or 2011 in SNAP 2016, but you must go through the minute details of what happened during 2014 to 2016.
GK: 20% weightage with reduced MCQs
GK section earlier used to have 40 questions carrying 40 marks out of total 180 maximum marks in SNAP test. However, this pattern has been changed and now the SNAP 2016 exam will carry maximum 150 marks out of which Current Affairs section will have 30 MCQs carrying a credit of 30 marks. It amounts to a weightage of 20% in the exam.

What to prepare: Key Current Affairs areas
Suggested by SNAP 2016 preparation expert Prof S K Agarwal, you need to prepare on following important topics for Current Affairs section in SNAP 2016. They should be limited to past 2 years of minute study as questions could be from any area
A. Key changes in Whos who at the National and International level as well as other topics like innovations, discoveries, books, authors, personalities, news about particular country, it capital and currency.
B. Business, Finance & Economy based during last 2 years
C. Last 2 years Current Affairs India (Political, Social, Sports, Films, awards etc.)
D. Last 2 years International (personalities-Present, Sports, global events etc.)
Each part needs due weightage. Current GK is based on current reading of newspapers and periodicals; Business & Economics GK reflect the changes in Fiscal and monetary policy, CRR, Repo Rate, Devaluation and up valuation of Rupee.
Please remember current GK-whether Business, national and international has an on-going preparation method and thorough reading of the newspaper only can keep you updated. However, now you need a good bi-monthly periodical to brush up what you have already studied.

SNAP 2016 is the mandatory exam for admission to MBA 2017-19 programmes offered by 15 Symbiosis institutes which are affiliated to Symbiosis International University (SIU) Pune.
SNAP 2016 will be a paper-pen mode test of 2 hours duration to be held on December 18 in 32 cities across the country. The test components will consist of Verbal Ability and Reading comprehension 40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; Quantitative Ability and Data interpretation-40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; Analytical and Logical Reasoning- 40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks and Current Affairs-30 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 30 marks.
Registration for SNAP 2016 is open and will close on November 22, 2016. Candidates need to apply separately to the desired Symbiosis institutes apart from registering and appearing in SNAP 2016. The registration fee for SNAP 2016 is Rs. 1500/-.
