The appointment of Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman Aditya Birla Group as the new Chairman BoG IIM Ahmedabad was finalised by Ministry of HRD, Government of India, on Friday October 21, 2016.

IIM Ahmedabad has remained without a chairman for many months after A. M. Naik, Chairman L & T, relinquished the position of Chairman BoG IIM-A on December 31, 2015, although Cadila Healthcare CMD Pankaj Patel was subsequently appointed as the interim chairman.

Mr Naik who carried the reputation of having brought some of the top brains like Prof Ashish Nanda as the Director of IIM Ahmedabad had an extended term as its chairman till 2018, he preferred to resign from the position.
Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla is expected to bring greater industry connect, spearhead management education which will help IIM Ahmedabad to continue with its top B-school position.

The appointment of an IIM Ahmedabad or any IIM chairman follows the process of invitation to the candidate by MHRD; acceptance by the candidate and then the final appointment.
