Dr. Umakant Dash has been appointed Director of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) with effect from February 15, 2021. Prior to joining IRMA, he served as the HoD of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Madras and as Adjunct Professor at IIM Tiruchirappalli. He succeeds Prof Hitesh Bhatt who joined IRMA in 1995 as Associate Professor and later on became its Director

The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), a highly ranked and pioneering management institute in India has announced the appointment of Dr. Umakant Dash as its new Director. Dr Dash takes over the charge with effect from February 15, 2021.

Dr. Dash has more than 25 years’ experience in teaching and research. Prior to joining IRMA, he served as the Head of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Madras and as Adjunct Professor at IIM Tiruchirappalli.

Dr. Dash has specialization in the areas of Macro Economics and Health Economics. He is a PhD in Applied Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Expressing happiness on his appointment, Dr. Dash said that he looked forward to working together with the faculty and staff to make IRMA one of the best academic institutions with human values.

Dr Dash succeeds  Prof Hitesh Bhatt, who started his academic career in 1995 with IRMA as Associate Professor  and was  appointed its director later on. Faculty in the area of General Management, Prof Bhatt holds a degree of B.Tech from I.I.T Delhi and M.S. in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA.

Founded in 1979, by Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as the ‘Father of the White Revolution in India’, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), the Government of India, Government of Gujarat, the erstwhile Indian Dairy Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), IRMA has grown to become a premier institution of professional learning offering Management programmes with a focus on understanding real management problems and socio-economic realities of under-served communities through intensive fieldwork.
