SPJIMR launches new initiatives at 2013-15 PGDM Batch orientation

SPJIMR has introduced an integrated program in Business Communication, a Business Consulting Project and a minor specialization in Consulting for its PGDM programme even as the institute inducted its new PGDM batch of 2013 15.

SPJIMR has introduced an integrated program in ‘Business Communication’, a ‘Business Consulting Project’ and a minor specialization in ‘Consulting’ for its PGDM programme even as the institute inducted its new PGDM batch of 2013-15.

 

According to the institute, SPJIMR’s PGDM Program of 2013-15 consists of 236 participants with 94 female students. The new batch comprises 65 non-engineers from different top colleges and over 90 per cent of the batch carries average work experience of 24 months, the institute said.

 

Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, Deputy Director, PGDM Program announced the new initiatives to the participants during the orientation program for the Class of 2013-15 and spoke on the logic of the PGDM program architecture and pedagogy.

 

According to the institute, a new elective on ‘Design Thinking & Innovation’ based on the workshop led by Prof. Srikant Datar, Senior Associate Dean of Harvard Business School, has also been incorporated in the first year of the program for the new batch. The ‘Business Communication’ program will facilitate group interactions, presentations and discussions among students.

 

The ‘Business Consulting Project’ will be a group work based programme wherein the participants form groups will be working as junior consultants on live assignments being undertaken by the Centre for Executive Education, Centre for Financial Services, and Centre For Entrepreneurship at SPJIMR.

 

For participants interested in a professional career in consulting, a minor specialization has been launched to provide tailor made inputs. Going forward, the PGDM program expects to launch such ‘minor specialization’ tracks focusing on sector specific recruiter needs and roles matching the participants’ career aspirations, the institute said.

 

Institute Director Dr. Sesha Iyer acquainted the participants about SPJIMR’s mission of ‘influencing management practice through inculcation of Indian values’. He urged the students to be a ‘contributor’ which is a source of internal fulfillment and lasting happiness.

 

The highlight of the program was an interactive ‘Question & Answer’ session by Dean Dr. M.L. Shrikant with the new participants. Dr. Shrikant stressed the need for distributive justice in human life and motivated the participants to contribute to the society by taking up unconventional careers like entrepreneurship, teaching and social services.
