MHRD appoints NITIE professor Dr Amitabha De IIM Shillong director
IIM Shillong has appointed long time NITIE professor Dr Amitabha De as new director of the institute.
Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has appointed long time NITIE professor Dr Amitabha De as new director of IIM Shillong.
Dr Amitabha De, who taught at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) for about 30 years prior to his recent appointment, has taken over charge as Director, Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management Shillong with effect from 17 June 2013, the institute said. For last one year, Dr Keya Sengupta who is a Professor of Economics and Dean, Research and the Chair of the Fellow Programme in at IIM Shillong, was leading the institute as its acting director. Dr Sengupta became the acting director after the institute bid farewell to its first director Prof Ashoke K Dutta in June last year.
A Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) & Master of Science (M. Sc.) from Calcutta University in 1974 and 1977 respectively, Dr Amitabha De also did his Ph D in Physiology and Ergonomics from the same University in the year 1989. His special areas of academic interest include Ergonomics and human factors engineering, work and exercise physiology, work study, work systems design, organization & methods, and industrial safety management systems.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr Amitabha De thanked the Ministry of Human Resource Development for giving him responsibility to lead the institute as its director.
I am deeply honored to lead IIM Shillong and very grateful to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and the Board of Governors, RGIIM Shillong for their confidence in me. I take this opportunity to those responsible for creating this great Institute of excellence, putting it in a position to seize the opportunities and create innovation in the best interest of Management Education, Dr De said.
While acknowledging IIM Shillong commitment on building a legacy of impacting quality of life in the region, Dr Amitabha said he will work towards fulfilling objectives and achieving the set goals of the institutes. As we move forward, our emphasis will continue on creating young, vibrant and dedicated managers and leaders, intellectually and emotionally competent to meet the challenges of organizational nuances both at national and international level, he said in an official message posted on IIM shillong website.
