IIM Raipur concludes 4 day orientation programme for new PGP, FPM batches

The concluding day of 4 day orientation programme at IIM Raipur witnessed top corporate leaders exhorting the new bathes to be ready to learn management theories along with its applicability in the fast changing market places.
The 4 day orientation programme for the 4th batch of PGPM and the 2nd batch of FPM at IIM Raipur ended on June 30, 2013

The concluding day of 4-day orientation programme at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur witnessed top corporate leaders addressing the new batch and exhorting the students to be ready to learn the management theories along with its applicability in the fast changing market places.

The 4-day orientation programme for the 4th batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and the 2nd batch of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) at IIM Raipur ended on June 30, 2013.

Mr B.L. Agarwal, Managing Director, GPIL in his Keynote address on the concluding day advised the students that the only way to overcome obstacles and hurdles in life is hard work and perseverance.

Mr.Tarun Chauhan, Managing Partner, JWT, enlightened the gathering on marketing strategies. Giving an insight into to the changing consumer behaviour and hence marketing strategies, he said, “We don’t advertise to consumers anymore. We strike conversations with them.” He said that contextualising advertisements against the socio-economic and cultural backdrop is success mantra of marketing communication today.

Dr. B.L.Tiwari, Divisional Commissioner, Chhattisgarh, motivated the budding managers to follow their dreams and achieve their goals. He highlighted the importance of being optimistic in life at all times.

Mr. Amit Agnihotri, Chairman, MBAUniverse inspired the students to take the road less taken. He emphasized that passion, humility and discipline are the three virtues of a successful entrepreneur. Mr. Agnihotri emphasised that execution of laid out plans is far more important than conception of an idea. He conveyed the message “Knowing, Being and Doing“ to those who wished to be future entrepreneurs.

Swami Satyarupananda, Secretary of Ramkrishna Mission Raipur, addressed the students on ‘Management based on Indian ethics.’ He advised the students that self-management which starts with introspection is the secret of success for all managers.”Management is a part of life and life is not a part of management,” he said.

Prof. Rajeev Roy, Chairman, Career Development and Placement Cell, IIM Raipur shared valuable insights on increasing expectations of the corporate from B-School graduates. Prof. Roy said the keys to nurture professional relationships include workplace ethics, networking skills and people skills.

Dr B.S. Sahay, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Raipur, complimented the students for the enthusiasm and response shown by them during the orientation programme. He motivated the students to keep up the enthusiasm and take the same to the corporate world.

Many senior academicians and management experts shared their insight with the new batch during the Orientation Programme.

Prof. Lakshman Chaturvedi, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Central University, Bilaspur also member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Raipur was the Chief Guest on the inaugural day. Prof Nitin Madhusudan Nagarkar, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur had delivered the Keynote Address during the opening sessions of the orientation programme.

During the four days of orientation students were also informed on the ethos of the institute and its long-term vision. Some of the top corporate who shared their experiences and motivated the students include Dr. S. Chandrashekhar, Vice President India & South Asia, IBM; Mr. Pradeep Tandon Executive Vice President, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.; and Mr. Ramkumar, Executive Director and Board Member, ICICI Bank.

“The Orientation Programme also aligned the students with industry expectations and a global mindset to make them understand the social, economic, technological and ecological environment in order to develop the skill to address the challenges of a global competition. The idea behind this programme was to promote holistic development of the students through a mix of activities,” the institute said.
