MBAUniverse.com recently interviewed Professor Xavier about his views on what makes VIT, Vellore a unique institute and how a B School aspirant should choose a B School for MBA.
Interview:
Q. Lets start with a question about how should B school aspirants choose a B school? What according to you are the criteria which they need to consider before going for admission?
A. A B School aspirant should first of all introspect whether he has the aptitude for doing an MBA. Successful MBAs tend to have wider interests and enjoy working with people. If these two conditions are fulfilled, then the score they get in the entrance examinations like CAT, XAT and MAT will determine the kind of Institute they can get in. If scores are not good enough for the top tier B Schools, then they should look for the schools with good reputation, infrastructure, faculty and placement record.
If some of you are very of the area they would like to specialize in, like finance, marketing or HR, then they should check-out for faculty details in those areas. If they also have a clear idea as to they would like to get in to sect-oral courses like retailing, media, construction, cyber crime etc. then they should look for Institutions that offer such specialized courses.
