SNAP 2013 is only a day away. The day is usually nerve wrecking especially when you have been preparing very well for the examination and wish to come out with flying colours. Candidates are apprehensive, not knowing what to expect. With all the talk of exams and a to-do list a mile long, it’s completely natural to be freaking out.
How should I spend the day before the exam and what are the last minute tips that could help on D-day are some of the questions which spring up spontaneously. Revision of key points
It is not recommended to go for any fresh preparatory topic on a day before the examination as it creates more confusion than clarity. However, in case you feel that some formulae, topic already learnt by you need a quick revision, you may go for that. The strategy to be adopted may be as follows
Do not revise in a single sitting. Divide your revision time in slots of 15 minutes. For example, when you are taking tea and snacks-you may revise a topic/formula; if there is a park or garden nearby; you may visit the place for a while and may do a quick revision over there. If you revise better while walking about, you may pace about the room or go upstairs on the roof and may do it. All these suggestions are based on the fact that the receptivity of the mind begins to fade after some time of reading. Splitting the time frame of one or two hours into 5-6 slots will enable you to do better on revision front and will keep you fresh.
Quick revision on Error Correction in General English
You may find 16 to 18 questions out of 40 on error corrections in General English section. It means approximately 40 percent of English section is covered by questions on error corrections. The questions are not very difficult but are tricky and have confusing close options.
Everyone has their area of interest, like sports or history or politics. Experts suggest starting your preparation with your area of interest as it will not only take less time but will also take less effort in the starting.

Tip-1 – how to choose the correct sentences
Incorrect-
Do these gloves belongs to you
Could you give me the amount wherein you filled out in the check you sent.(All modifiers are misplaced)
I have completed the work yesterday.
The train couldn’t stop in time and crashed against the truck.
Correct-
Do these gloves belong to you (gloves plural so plural base form verb as it is the present tense)
Could you give me the amount that you filled out in the check which was sent? (Modifying clauses must be placed as near to the word they modify as possible)
I completed the work yesterday. (Simple past tense verb should be used with yesterday, ago, last week, last month, last year etc.)
The train couldn’t stop in time and crashed into the truck. (The train can hit something but if it crashes it will crash ‘into’)
Tip-2- key points to remember
Collective nouns like team, committee, jury etc. when taken as a unanimous group must have singular verb, when divided they will have plural verb. (The jury has decided; the jury were not able to reach a decision)
Comprise is not followed by ‘of’; consist is always followed by ‘of’ (The committee comprises five members; the committee consists of five members)
Revise the usage of Active-passive; Reported speech, if possible
Tip-3 on conditional sentences – remember the types and verb pattern that determine the relevance
No conditional clause can be in future, it should be – If I do…... If I did…….; If I had done…
Main clause for the same may be – I get the result or I will get the result; I would get the result; I would have got the result.
Important rules for conditionals (If clause means the conditional clause)
Rule- 1- When ‘If’ clause is in present (If I do); main clause may be in present or future ( I get or I will get) but ‘If’ clause cannot be in future like- If I will do (wrong)
Rule-2 –When ‘If’ clause is in simple past (If I did or If I were the Prime Minister); main clause must be with auxiliary would/could/should/might+ base form of the verb ( I would get the result; I would effect many changes) Please note that be form verb ‘were’ must be used even with singular form.
Rule-3-When ‘If’ clause is in past perfect (If I had done or had I done…); main clause must be with auxiliary would/should/could/might+have+III (participle) form of the verb (I would have got the result). No sentence in rule 3 can have ‘when’, please note only ‘if’ can be used.
These rules will apply to each and every conditional having ‘Unless’, ‘as soon as’, ‘when’, ‘till’, ‘In case’ ‘if’ etc
Make a to-do-list
Another important suggestion is to prepare a comprehensive but short to do list for the day. Your list should contain organising the stationery and papers necessary for the examination, updating yourself about the time and venue of the test, how to mark answers correctly on OMR sheet, estimation of time to be consumed from the place of your stay to the venue of examination, ascertaining the mode of conveyance, the dress you would like to wear on the examination day, the time for your balanced food (you wouldn’t like your stomach growl during the silent examination hall), and a little last minute revision.
Now divide the work and accomplishing all of the above will not take more than one to two hours except the last point.
Documents Required
Please arrange the following documents as the same will be required at the examination centre
i)Admit Card.
ii) Your latest coloured passport size photograph should be pasted on the Admit Card at the place provided for.
iii) Photo identity as specified
iv) Blue/Black ballpoint pen.
Important – Please note that items like cell phones, calculators, watch calculators, alarm clocks, digital watches with built in calculators/memory or any electronic gadgets shall not be allowed in the examination hall. It is better to avoid the same.

Time and Venue
Candidates should remember that their test will start at 2.00 P.M. and they are supposed to report at 1.00 P.M.(13 hrs) at the examination centre. Check the admit card and ensure that you know the venue address else find it out a day before to avoid any last minute panic.
Keep the options open
Do not get biased before the examination. Even the topics that are underprepared may give you pleasant surprise. So do not think that you would attempt this and leave that. Maximise your attempts with speed and accuracy. It is not advisable to go for guesses since a penalty of one fourth negative marking for every wrong answer will be imposed.
Practice on dummy OMR
Unlike CAT where you can’t come back to earlier section, when time is over for the first section, SNAP allows you to attempt any question from any part and for any number of times, till 2 hours are over. OMR sheet has closely formed circles and numbers. In our hurry we sometimes forget the mark the right circle against right number of answer option, despite knowing the answer. With a little bit of practice, you can reassure yourself and get rid of this problem.
Hence, buy one or two dummy OMR sheets from nearby stationery shop or you may download and print the same from some site where these are available, but practice at least twice. Candidates coming out of the examination hall are seen pulling a long face due to these silly mistakes.
Go on moving-attempt more in Analytical Ability
Analytical Ability in SNAP plays very important role. While each of the other 3 sections has 40 as maximum marks, analytical ability carries 60 marks. The duration of examination is two hours and less than one minute will be available to answer one question. So be prepared and do not stick to any one question, if you have time, you may come back to it. You can attempt any question from anywhere in the test .
On the D-day and in the examination hall
Please reach in time, occupy the seat allotted to you by verifying the seat number, pasted on the desk and also indicated in the admit card.
When you get the Test Booklet, please check that all the pages of the booklet are in order. In case of any defect, immediately bring it to the notice of the invigilator.
SNAP 2013 Result
SNAP 2013 result is scheduled to be out on January 9 2014 at 12:00 pm. The first list of SNAP 2013 result will contain the shortlist candidates name for Personal Interaction and Writing Ability Test (PI-WAT). Proposed date of Final Merit List of SNAP 2013 for all Programs of Institutes will be released on February 28, 2014.
