GD - Group Discussion
GD can be classified as round of intricate debate which takes place among a few candidates (say 7 to 12) without any outside interference. This flow of exchange of opinions and thoughts is the tool for judgment of your various skills. A topic is given by an evaluator to the group and the entire group is supposed to sum up its ideas within the given time frame say 15-20 minutes.
GDs are conducted to test managerial attributes like interpersonal skills, leadership, analytical and rational thinking, knowledge and personality traits.
A successful manager should not just be good with his quota of work, but he/she is expected to contribute as part of a team. Ability to work and contribute in teams is a must to succeed in the corporate sector. And thats what
GDs aim to test.
The IIMs and other elite institutes, the ones under XAT, NMAT,etc have now started giving more emphasis on Essay writing, making it as one of the vital process for admissions and thus it becomes imperative for every MBA aspirant to know more about essay writing.
It is important to note here that the essay that you will write can generate some questions for the interview round. The interview panel can ask you questions about the essay you have written and you will have to defend it.
The essay is used as a tool to judge the social and ethical values of the aspirant as the written piece provides a valuable insight into the mind of the test taker. The B-school uses the essay as a pre-interview yardstick. An Essay can test you out on: Clarity, Logic, Focus, Structure, Argument and several other factors.

PI- Personal Interview
A personal interview is aimed at knowing a candidate more intimately assessing the clarity of thinking process, future goals and the fit with the B-school.
During the personal interview, Interviewer will check the analytical skills of the candidate in ways that cannot be done with a written test. Certain questions during the personal interview are devised to see how the candidate can analyze a situation and create a solution.
Every business school has different policies when it comes to MBA interviews. Typically, an MBA interview is conducted by one or more members of the admissions committee. However, it is not unusual to be interviewed by current students or alumni. Professors do not normally conduct admissions interviews, but there are a few schools who do assign faculty members to the task. Given that a good MBA is a demanding programme, B-schools would like to know how you will be able to cope up with the academics and the extra-curricular 24 x 7 demands of your new campus. They are also keen to assess how you have utilized the earlier learning opportunities.
