NMAT by GMAC: Registration number up by 15% to 54000 candidates; records all time high

54,010 candidates have registered to take NMAT by GMAC test, which closed its registration process on October 19, 2015
43% of the total registered candidates coming to 23491 are from non-engineering background while 30,519 making 57% candidates are from engineering background

Beating all expectation, a record 54,010 candidates have registered to take NMAT by GMAC test, which closed its registration process on October 19, 2015. Compared with last year’s registrations, this year 7000 more candidates have registered for the exam. Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), owner of NMAT by GMAC exam, has shared these numbers exclusively with MBAUniverse.com.

This news should bring cheers to MBA education community. It may be recalled that registration number in CAT 2015 has broken past 5 year record and has gone up to 2.18 lakhs as against 1.97 lakhs in 2014. On the similar lines, NMAT by GMAC has surpassed the last year registration number significantly by 7000 candidates.

Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Mr. Vikram Shah, Director, Product Management, GMAC said: “NMAT by GMAC registrations for the year 2015 are at an all-time high since its inception. This year 54,010 unique candidates registered for the NMAT by GMAC, a growth of 15% compared to last year’s number of 46,950 candidates. The success of this achievement can be attributed to three actions the company implemented since taking ownership of this exam, including developing prep material, securing partnerships with more schools in India, and adding new payment structures supported by aggressive marketing.”

NMAT by GMAC registrations for the year 2015 are at an all-time high since its inception. This year 54,010 unique candidates registered for the NMAT by GMAC, a growth of 15% compared to last year’s number of 46,950 candidates.

Greater Academic diversity: More non-engineers prefer NMAT by GMAC
43% of the total registered candidates coming to 23491 are from non-engineering background while 30,519 or 57% candidates are from engineering background. Last year the number of non-engineering candidates was 37% on a total base of 46,950 registrations compared to this year it is at 43% on a total base of 54,010 registrations. The trend reflects a growth of whopping 6000+ additional candidates from the non-engineering background.

Gender diversity up
Around 38% (20,571 candidates) of the total registered candidates are women while 62% (33,417 candidates) are male. Last year the number of women were 36% on a total base of 46,950 registrations. A  growth of 3500+ additional women candidates has been achieved in registrations for NMAT by GMAC. Apart from this as per the Hon’ble Supreme Court Directive the third gender called Transgender has registered its presence with 22 candidates.

NMAT by GMAC exam was known as NMAT till last year. The last NMAT was conducted in 2014 by NMIMS University for admission to its MBA programmes in 4 campuses. In the month of March 2015 Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the owner of GMAT exam acquired NMAT, and has renamed it ‘NMAT by GMAC’. NMAT  by GMAC in its present form is the first exam being conducted by GMAC. Apart from NMIMS 13 more B-schools and Universities have joined NMAT by GMAC and will accept its scores for admission to their MBA/PGDM 2016-18 batch.

NMAT by GMAC has also announced that there will be no changes in content of the test and has the same pattern as NMAT used to have. The exam is conducted in the longest testing window of 75 days from October 6 to December 19, 2015. Earlier, announcing that ‘NMAT by GMAC’ is not different than ‘NMAT’ as regards content of the exam, Vikram Shah shared with MBAUniverse.com “There will be no change in the content of the NMAT by GMAC™ exam in the 2015 cycle and the format of the exam will remain same; it be a multiple-choice question paper that includes Quantitative Ability, Language Skills and Logical Reasoning”.

Apart from four campuses of NMIMS 15 other Universities & B-schools will also accept NMAT by GMAC scores.
