Low Cut Offs: Move to Improve Gender Diversity
It may be noted that IIM Shillong & IIM Ahmedabad are the only two older IIMs who have announced a low cut offs for CAT 2019 score. The move is seen in the MBA education circle as an initiative to encourage non-engineers and women candidates to join IIM Shillong PGP 2020-22 batch.

IIM Shillong Admission Eligibility

  1. IIM Shillong Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. One of the most important points in IIM Shillong Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2019 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional score to become eligible for admission
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks in its academics, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Shillong by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIM Shillong Admission 2020. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university, certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  5. IIM Shillong Eligibility further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will not be eligible for the IIM Shillong admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2020 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2020) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  6. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Shillong and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2020.  The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2020.

The entire process of shortlisting and selection of candidates at IIM Shillong for its Post Graduate Programme is independent of all other IIMs. Performance in CAT and consistently well academic record are important criteria for short-listing of candidates to the final stage of admission process. Candidates should note that it is important to perform well relative to other candidates at each stage of the process.

The candidature of the candidate would automatically stand cancelled, if at any point of the admission process, the candidate does not respond and adhere to the requirements of the process. IIM Shillong would protect the privacy of all the individual candidates and confidentiality of the process to prevent abuse. Based on these considerations, the performance details of an individual are not made available to any other person.

To ensure that the perceived lack of transparency does not in any way affect the candidates negatively, adequate care is taken in formation of panel, development of objective criteria for assessment, random allocation of candidates to a panel, establishing scientific reliability of the process and other such measures.

Candidates appearing in PI will be able to check their status regarding admission offer by IIMS Shillong by the second week of May 2020 by visiting the institute’s website.  The same information, along with offer document, will be sent over to the candidate’s registered e-mail.

Such Candidates, who are offered admission, will need to confirm their acceptance by completing all the required formalities within the stipulated time frame. Failing to do so will forfeit their candidature and the offer will be made to candidates on wait-list. Wait list candidates may be required to respond to admission offer, if made at a short notice.

The Institute reserves the right to revoke the offer of admission to any candidate not fulfilling the offer-acceptance requirements as per specifications.
