IIM Shillong has decided to award high weightage of 70% to Performance in Personal Interview round in generating final merit list for MBA admission 2021. Many key changes in cut offs, diversity and low weight to CAT 2020 score in final selection process have been announced by IIM Shillong for admission 2021. Read this article to know all about the USPs, Fee, Placement, and other details of IIM Shillong selection process
IIM Shillong Admission 2021

IIM Shillong has released its Admission policy for 2021-23 batch and prescribes high weightage of 70% to the performance in PI round in generating final merit list. The minimum requirement to qualify for shortlisting process for PI round is CAT 2020 sectional score of 75 percentile on the lines of IIM Ahmedabad. Surprisingly, except IIM Shillong and IIM Ahmedabad none of the comparatively older IIMs have dared to announce such a moderate low minimum sectional percentile of 70 or 75 for shortlisting. The very purpose of keeping the cut off low is to improve the academic and gender diversity in IIM Classrooms. After implementation of IIM Act 2017, the PGP 2017-19 at IIM Shillong was the first batch receiving the MBA degree instead of diploma

For admission to the PGP 2021-23 batch, applicants are required to qualify in CAT 2020. Overseas candidates may however, apply with GMAT scores of not earlier than 24 months prior to last date of application. IIM Shillong looks for students with  strong analytical skills and an orientation towards outcome, as reflected in their CAT or GMAT scores and in their academic  and work performance. Besides, those with a social or community orientation are also the candidates that IIM Shillong looks for.

IIM Shillong is the 7th IIM among 20 IIMs. It commenced its academic session in 2008. IIM Shillong is led by its Director, Dr D P Goyal who is a Professor in the area of Information Systems. Also a visiting Professor at Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark, he has rich experience of working in various senior administrative positions including Dean (Graduate Programmes, Accreditations & Rankings) and Dean-Executive Graduate Programmes at MDI Gurgaon. He has been on the expert committees of Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Delhi and GGSIP University; AICTE; DoPT; National eGovernance Department, Government of India and many universities and B-schools including Central/State universities and IIMs.

IIM Shillong Admission Criteria
IIM Shillong Admission Criteria 2021 is a three step process. The three-stages of selection criteria are:

( 1 ) Eligibility criteria
( 2 ) Shortlisting Criteria for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI)
( 3 ) Final Admission Selection criteria

( 1 ) IIM Shillong Admission Eligibility

  1. IIM Shillong Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%
  2. One of the most important points in IIM Shillong Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2020 exam and must score minimum prescribed sectional score to become eligible for admission
  3. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks in its academics, the equivalence to determine PGP admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by IIM Shillong by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate.
  4. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for IIM Shillong Admission 2021. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university, certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year or is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks.
  5. IIM Shillong Eligibility further clarifies that such a candidate, if selected, will not be eligible for the IIM Shillong admission unless he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2021 from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university (issued on or before June 30, 2021) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.
  6. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by IIM Shillong and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination held on or before June 30, 2021. The deadline to submit the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2021.

( 2 ) IIM Shillong Shortlisting Criteria
