IIM Shillong has completed 100% placement for its large PGP 2022-24 batch with average salary going down at Rs.26.10 LPA from Rs.26.96 LPA last year. While IIM Shillong has kept intact its place in the elite club of top IIMs with 25+ LPA Average salary, like other IIMs it has also been affected with economic slowdown as the placement statistics reflect dip in its Highest, Average and Median salary in Placements 2024

In a scenario when most B-schools are facing adverse impact of Economic Slowdown in their placements, IIM Shillong too has been affected by this phenomenon with a dip in its Average, Median and highest salary in Placement 2024. IIM Shillong concluded its final placement 2024 witnessing 87 marquee companies making offers to its large batch of 283 students. IIM Shillong has started conferring MBA degree instead of diploma after implementation of IIM Act 2017 which empowered the IIMs to award MBA degree.  

IIM Shillong Joined the club 25+ LPA average salary B-schools last year. This year too it has kept its place intact despite the dip in average salary. Average salary in IIM Shillong has gone down at Rs.26.10 LPA in Placement 2024 for the 15th PGP 2022-24 batch from Rs.26.96 LPA last year along with a dip in highest and median salary.

Among the second generation IIMs who have completed final placements 2024, IIM Shillong is not the only one to have registered a dip in salary packages, most other IIMs have also witnessed downward trend in placement packages.

An interesting observation from the data is that IIM Shillong, the first of the second-generation IIMs, established more than a decade after IIM Indore in a relatively remote location, has managed to exceed the salary of older IIM Indore! While the average 2024 salary reported by IIM Indore is Rs 25.68 LPA, the average 2024 salary reported by IIM Shillong is Rs 26.01 LPA.

Consulting and Strategy emerged as the top-choice domain, comprising 31.5% of all offers extended. Among the roles offered were Associate, Management Consultant, Business Consultant, and Sales Transformation Consultant. Prominent recruiters such as Accenture Strategy, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company, Capgemini, Deloitte USI, EY India, Everest Group, McKinsey & Company, Piramal Pharma Limited, Infosys Consulting, Synergy Consulting and WNS Global reaffirmed their partnership with the institute, providing desirable positions to students. Additionally, sought-after names like Accenture Technology Consulting, ADP, IBS Software, IIFL, Protiviti, Takshashila Consulting and THB also joined the ranks of recruiters.

Finance: 29% Offers – Highest Salary: Rs.40 LPA
IIM Shillong has always been a preferred campus for recruiters offering roles in the Finance domain. A notable 28.8% of participants secured offers for roles including Associate, Credit Risk Analyst, Equity Research, and Financial Risk Advisory, among others. Esteemed recruiters such as Axis Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Kotak Mahindra Bank, MUFG, Nomura Investment Bank, Oxane Partners, Standard Chartered, Tata AIG and Willaim O’Neil remained steadfast in their recruitment efforts, hiring in significant numbers from the institute.

Sales & Marketing: 21% Offers – Highest Salary: Rs.43 LPA
Sales & Marketing made up 21.2% of the overall offers received. Recruiters like Berger Paints, Cipla, Everest Industries, ITC, Johnson & Johnson, Grasim Industries, Metalbook, Pidilite Industries, and Tata Steel reaffirmed their confidence in the capabilities of the participants by recruiting extensively. Human Resource & Operations: 8% Offers Highest Salary: Rs. 30 LPA
The Human Resources and Operations domain attracted notable companies such as Aditya Birla Capital, Affinity Global, Air India, AON Consulting, Birlasoft, CSM Technologies, EcomExpress, Reliance Brands Limited, Tata Steel, Vedanta, and WNS Global reaffirming their commitment to the institution by providing significant roles across diverse sectors. This domain comprised 8.5% of this year’s placements.

General Management: 5% Offers – Highest Salary: Rs.30 LPA
This year, the General Management sector witnessed heightened interest from recruiters across diverse industries such as BFSI, Consulting, IT & Analytics, Manufacturing & Retail, and Technology, Media & Telecommunications.
