CMAT exam pattern awards equal weightage to all 4 sections without time restriction and toppers derived benefit of it to maximise their scores
You will be surprised to know that with a planned and well defined test day strategy you can score 99 percentile with a score of less than 225 marks

How much score you need to be a topper with 99 or 100 percentile in CMAT 2017 could be a big question at first unless you know the facts and the strategy to crack it. But when you see the CMAT 2017 Exam Pattern , syllabus, scoring pattern and analyse the past toppers’ overall and sectional scores, you will be surprised to know that with a planned and well defined test day strategy you can score 99 percentile with a score of less than 225 marks out of 400 maximum marks.

Most CMAT toppers relied upon their sectional scoring strategies taking help of the more mock tests, and preparing according to the CMAT exam pattern and the syllabus topics on which questions appeared earlier.

553 candidates were CMAT toppers who scored 99 and above percentile last year. The minimum score that the 99 percentiler in CMAT got was only 222 and the highest score that the 100 percentiler cracked was 300. These candidates cracked CMAT with such high percentile by not scoring very high in each section but made it a point to keep a balance among all the 4 sections.

How to score 99 - 100 percentile: Toppers’ strategy
CMAT 2017 exam pattern as shared by AICTE has 4 sections and each section has 25 questions in MCQ format. All the sections have equal weightage and award 4 marks for each correct answer and a penalty of -1 mark for each wrong answer. There is no sectional time restriction and during the 3 hours duration, you can attempt any question in any section which is a great advantage to maximise your attempts.

No need to attempt all 25
CMAT exam pattern and the well devised percentile predictor gives the clear message - that to score high, attempt fewer questions on which you are confident and avoid the penalty of negative marking due to wrong attempts.

You can score 99 and above percentile if you attempt accurately 10 to 20 questions in each section. The strategy adopted by CMAT 99 and 100 percentilers reveals this fact.

Jivtesh Singh with a total score of 300 marks was the lone 100 percentiler in CMAT last year. He did not get tempted to attempt more and more questions in the exam unless he was comfortable with it. His sectional score ranged 90 for Quant; 80 for LR; 60 for Language Comprehension and 70 for GK. It implies that out of 25 questions in each section, his highest accurate attempt of 23 questions was in Quant followed by 20 questions in LR; only 15 questions in Language Comprehension and less than 18 questions in GK.

Similarly, Janhavi Narayan who scored 99 percentile with 222 marks was careful to avoid wrong attempts and focused on accuracy instead of attempting more questions. Out of 25 MCQs in each section the accurate attempt was only 10 in Quant; 18 in LR; 17 in Language comprehension and 11 in GK. This fetched a total score of 222 with an award of 99 percentile.
