New IIMs CAP 2017: Different weights in 9 IIMs to impact your admission chances; dont depend only on high CAT 2016 scores
All the 9 IIMs have announced different weightage to CAP round 2017 and for generating the final merit list
Common Admission Process (CAP) 2017 for admission to 9 new IIMs has already begun. All the 9 IIMs have announced different weightage to CAP round 2017 and for generating the final merit list after CAP 2017 is over in 1st week of March to make admission offer.
The admission process is therefore dependant more on the each of 9 IIMs individual weightage on WAT and PI Round while your score in CAT 2016 will account for less. Accordingly, your score in CAP 2017 will increase or decrease your admission chances in the new IIMs.
All the 9 new IIMs participating in CAP 2017 namely IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Sambalpur will finalise their merit lists and will generate admission offers individually. Your admission to any of the 9 new IIMs will now depend upon your writing and communication skills that you show in the CAP round.
New IIM CAP 2017 has 2 components - Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The candidates appearing in CAP 2017 have to go through the process only once and the CAP round scores will be shared to all the 9 IIMs by the CAP 2017 conducting IIM Rohtak. But each IIM after receiving the scores of CAP will award separate and varying weightage to these scores. This difference will eventually decide which IIM will be able to give you admission offer.
Each of the 9 IIMs have shortlisted candidates 10-12 times of its intake. However, since most of the candidates have also been shortlisted by other older IIMs and their PI-WAT scores will be taken directly by the new IIMs, such candidates need not to appear in the CAP 2017.
