Swiss B school professor speaks on ERM @ SPJIMR

Dr Prodyot Samanta, professor of risk management at UGSM-Monarch Business School, Switzerland, recently delivered a guest lecture on enterprise risk management (ERM) at S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. Dr Samanta is considered to be a strategic thinker, thought leader and expert in the field of ERM.

Dr Samanta gave insights to students on the importance of enhanced risk management practices within the financial sector at large. He discussed key elements of a sound ERM framework. In this context, he mentioned sound ERM practices will always include an ongoing re-assessment. Dr Samanta suggested that senior management should constantly strive to make the business process better and more effective.

He said, It is critical to build robust ERM processes that would proactively assist institutions in identifying and optimizing their emerging threats and opportunities.

According to the students, it was an insightful session which gave them a corporate perspective on various aspects of ERM. Dr Samanta also spent some time taking questions and interacting with students of various programs at SPJIMR. The Q&A session helped students gather more awareness.

The guest lecture was organised by the CFSA committee, an integral part of the ADMAP (Assessment and Development of managerial and Administrative Potential) Programme at SPJIMR. The CFSA committee works towards adding value to all the participants at SPJIMR by creating awareness towards various issues in the field of finance and provide a platform to apply their understanding of the same.

The ADMAP Programme is like an experiential laboratory where students get to work in such committees with their peer groups. This gives them a dry run of the situation, especially about people management; they will find themselves in as and when they will join any organization.
