CAT 2006: Results were out on Tuesday

The overall highest percentile is 67.95. But among all the three sections Quantitative Ability, Logic and Data Interpretation, and English Usage, Quantitative Ability secured the highest percentile of 100. While the highest percentile in Logic and Data Interpretation was 86, in English Usage it was 60.

All the IIMs have released their list of shortlisted students. Each IIM has shortlisted more than 820 students for the next stage of Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PL). IIM Ahmedabad has shortlisted 820 students, while IIM Calcutta has 988.

Each IIMs has its own selection criteria for GD and PI. This time, IIM Ahmedabad has clearly spelt out its sectional and overall cutoff for shortlisting candidates. According to its cut-off, students need 95.33 percentile in each section and 98.3 percentile overall.

Likewise, in IIM Calcutta performances in all the three sections will be considered. IIMC professor and spokesperson of CAT group, Ashish Bhattacharya said, Only those who are among the top 10,000 in all the three sections have been considered in the shortlist. Delhi-based student Kapil Khurana, who took the test for fourth time, said, I know clearly where I lost. Khurana, with 99.96 percentile, failed to make to the IIM Ahmedabad list, as his English score is less than the cutoff requirements.

In comparison to last year, this years performance dropped by 1%. According to an IndiaTimes spokesperson, Going by the IIM-A result (at around 98.3 percentile), it has actually come down by almost 1%. Despite changes in the CAT pattern, expectations were high because the test was relatively easier. Students had expected 90 questions but there were only 75, which they had to attempt in two and half hours instead of two hours. English, however, was the surprise element

CAT brought cheers to many MBA aspirants as the number of seats has been increased. IIM-A, for instance, will increase its seats by 12%, IIM-C by 6%, so that general category is not impacted by reservation of other categories.
Students have been going helter-skelter trying to check their results. Said an MBA aspirant Soumya Shrivastva, I was checking sites from 2.30 am in the morning and got my results by 8 pm. There was too much congestion. For those who made the cut, it was time to find out which management institutes would give them a call. An IIM-A spokesperson said, The shortlisted candidates would be intimated by the middle of January. But those who cannot make it to the IIMs will be waiting for calls from non-IIM institutes.
