67,000 register for May CMAT, Dr SS Mantha tells MBAUniverse.com
AICTE has said that about 67,000 candidates have registered for May CMAT to be held in a four day window beginning May 19.
With Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) gaining wider acceptance in B-schools admissions across different states, AICTE has said that about 67,000 candidates have registered for May CMAT to be held in a four day window beginning May 19.
Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Dr SS Mantha, Chairman, AICTE said, The response to May CMAT has been very encouraging. With more states coming into the fold, we have received about 67,000 registrations from B-school Aspirants across India.
It is very satisfying to observe that more states are accepting CMAT as the first stage of their MBA admission process, he added.
In order to facilitate those candidates who could not appear in the earlier CMAT due to late notification issued by the State Governments, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had announced this additional CMAT in March. The May CMAT only accepted candidature of those who missed out one of the last two CMAT tests held in September 2012 and February 2013, respectively.
Dr Mantha, however, said that AICTE is organizing the additional May CMAT for this year only. This is not the third test and organizing the additional test will not be a regular practice in future, he said, adding, the May CMAT offered MBA admission opportunity to Aspirants from those states which announced their acceptance of CMAT scores very late.
The Aspirants are allowed to use better of the two CMAT scores for their B-school admission.
The registration for May CMAT had begun in the first week of March. The registration for the same, however, closed on April 10, 2013. The online admission test is scheduled to be held in more than 50 cities in a four day window from 19th May to 22nd May, 2013.
In the earlier edition of CMAT held in February 2013, around 1.55 lakh candidates had taken the test, which was held in a five-day window.
With a very positive response to the CMAT which is just its first season, Dr Mantha hailed it as a tool especially helpful for B-school aspirants. The sole purpose of CMAT is to provide benefits to students. We want them to take a single test because multiple tests mean spending more money and more importantly, going through much pain, he said.
Pattern of the test
CMAT is a three-hour test. The sections are: quantitative techniques & data interpretation, logical reasoning, language comprehension and general awareness. The total number of questions is 100, with 25 questions in each section. There is negative marking of one mark and each correct answer will fetch four marks. The overall difficulty level of the exam is easy to moderate.
