IIM Ranchi has appointed IIM Kolkata Professor Dr Binay Bhushan Chakrabarti as new director. Dr Chakrabarti has joined IIM Ranchi after the institute director Dr M J Xavier resigned from the office citing ‘personal reasons’.

Prior to his new role, Dr Binay Bhushan Chakrabarti, who has over two decades of teaching, research and industry experience, was a Professor of Finance at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. He has taught at many top B-schools including IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Indore, XIMB amongst others.

IIM-Calcutta alumni, Dr Chakrabarti completed his Ph. D in Economics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. His teaching and research interests include corporate finance, international finance, financial intermediation, financial derivatives, financial markets, asset pricing, capital management, risk management and profit centre management.

Established in 2010, IIM Ranchi is one of the six new IIMs. As the first Director of IIM Ranchi, Dr Xavier led the institute to expand its programme portfolio over past four years. Under his leadership, the institute also engaged with industry in curriculum delivery and developed a wide corporate connect which is well reflected in the institute’s high placement records over last two years.

Besides its flagship 2-year full time management programme, the  institute also runs 18 months part time Executive Diploma program for working professionals, 2 years full-time Post graduate program in HRM, Fellow Program in Management with specializations in Analytics, neuro management, Indian management and other functional areas; and MDPs for working professionals.
