Day 16 of CAT 2013 brought  some respite to the test takers with soft Verbal and a little difficult Quant.    Although reported a bit difficult, Quant and DI were doable. Verbal was good to attempt. The examination remained moderate to difficult and the level of difficulty was the same as in the past. No fresh surprise element was reported  in the session on the  sixteenth day of test that fell immediately after Diwali.

Ankita sharma , Sandeep Suman, Mrinal  were among the aspirants who took the test in the first session on November 6, 2013 and found Verbal and LR section easier than Quant.  They are quite optimistic to get a call from IIMs as they attempted good number of questions in both the sections with more than 90-95 percent accuracy.

Quant and DI
Quant comprised more questions on Algebra and Geometry and less on any other topic. There was hardly any question on Permutation and combination while stray questions on Functions and number system were present.  Data Interpretation had lengthy questions and most of the candidates had to leave a few questions either in Quant or DI due to scarcity of time, although they could solve them.

Verbal  Ability
Verbal and logical reasoning section was softer than the first section.  There were two questions on jumbled paragraphs, two questions on picking  the out of context sentence in a jumbled paragraph, two questions were to complete the last sentence of  paragraphs,  two on  fill in the blanks with correct pair of vocabulary words.  Two questions based on simple vocabulary words like Fast, Jump were present in the test followed by a question on error correction in sentences and paragraphs.

There were three Reading comprehension passages followed by ten questions. Two common questions were on the tone of the passage, two questions were based on understanding of phrases as used in the RC Passages, three questions were on the main idea of the passages. There were questions like what would you like to ask the author of the passage and rest of the questions were based on the information available in the passage, yet the questions were indirect.  Most of the candidates didn’t find the passages very  difficult .

Logical reasoning-
LR section had 10 questions in three sets.  While two sets of questions were not so difficult one set with three questions was more tricky and consumed more time of the candidates. Nevertheless, aspirants were able to crack 5-6 questions managing the time well in this section.

CAT 2013 in next few days –
No major change in type and style of questions is expected in CAT 2013.  Candidates, if work in the right direction will get a substantial improvement in their percentile.  LOD may vary but if one set of questions is more difficult the other set might be slightly easier.
