XAT 2014: XLRI Admission Chairperson answers XAT queries
To get aspirants doubts and queries answered, MBAUniverse.com conducted a Live Chat on XAT 2014 with Prof. Vishwa Ballabh, admission chairperson of XLRI, November 12, 2013.
To get aspirants doubts and queries answered regarding XAT 2014, the registration process for which is currently underway till November 22, 2013 with the examination being scheduled on January 5, 2014, MBAUniverse.com conducted a Live Chat with Prof. Vishwa Ballabh, admission chairperson of XLRI, on November 12, 2013.
Aspirants asked questions not only on XAT 2014 but also on XLRI admission 2014 process.
Excerpts from the chat:
Garima: What is the weightage of essay writing part in exam? Is this necessary to attempt this section? I have not filled it till now?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: Yes, it is important to write essay. The essay is evaluated for idea, coherence in thinking and grammar. In recent times communication is becoming important. Often managers have to write precise and short notes and therefore essay test.
Kailash Singh: I have submitted form online and got print out of confirmation page and have proof of payment. Is my application valid?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: If you have proof of payment and confirmation page your application is valid. If you have some confusion, send an email to admis@xlri.ac.in. We will reconfirm status of your application
Suraj Vinayak Shah: How XAT exam different from CAT. I have heard that XAT is totally math based or prefers engineers?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: Certainly not, we would like good mix of social sciences, engineers, medicos and other disciplines. Last year about 30% candidates were non-engineers. The paper is discriminatory there are good and simple questions in mathematics which can be done by any intelligent candidate. One should be selective in attempting the questions

Avinash: What will be the number of questions in XAT 2014?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: The number of question will be around 85 +/- 2; In addition to this there will be 20 +/ - 2 question of GK.
Ineesia Paul: If I clear sectional cutoffs, how much should I score overall to get a call for the PGDM-HRM program and other?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: It varies year after year; at this stage it is difficult to give clear cut answer. Last year for BM cut off was about 92 percentile and HRM was 88.
Sonali: I want to know that which program is better (HRM or BM) in XLRI?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: It all depends upon your choice of career. We believe that both our programmes are second to none.
Punam: Do I need to fill separate forms for both the programmes, HRM and BM?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: No, you can apply for both the programmes in the same application form. Please choose your options properly.
Ramesh: I did not get the confirmation of my application form from your side till now?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: You may send an email to admis@xlri.ac.in stating your XAT id and we will make sure that you get the status of your application.
Navya: What will be the total expenditure if we opt to take hostels in XLRI?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: The fee at XLRI is about 7.5 lakhs per year.
Sanjay: How the marking of the general knowledge section will be done?
Dr Vishwa Ballabh: It is MCQ only and this is weighted only at the time of final selection.
