XLRI Jamshedpur holds 22nd annual JRD ethics oration on BUSINESS ETHICS

XLRI organizes 22nd Annual JRD Tata Oration on Business Ethics which was delivered by Union HRD Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju at the Tata Auditorium.

XLRI, Jamshedpur organized the22ndAnnualJRD Tata Orationon Business Ethics on Dec 7, 2013 at the Tata Auditorium. The theme of the oration was Ethical Challenges for India Today. Union HRD Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju delivered the oration.

On the occasion, Dr. Raju delved upon three different facets that are linked to Ethics in India today Education, Business & Politics. He said Higher education must pay more attention to helping students understand how to lead ethical, reflective, fulfilling lives. He also added that, Despite the importance of moral development to the individual student and the society, one cannot say that higher education has demonstrated a deep concern for the problem of ethics

He was however happy to learn that XLRI introduced a core course on managerial ethics for its programmes and that a medal is awarded to the best student in managerial ethics at the institutes annual convocation.
Union HRD Minister Dr Raju also inaugurated the new International Centre at XLRI where the second semester of the global management course byXLRI, Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western University, Cleveland- USAandSchool of Economics & Management of Tongji University, Shanghai- Chinawill commence on January 10, 2014.

The session was attended by distinguished guests which include, HM Nerurkar,MD, Tata Steel Limited & Chairman, Board of Governors, XLRI; Fr. E Abraham, S. J.Director of XLRI Jamshedpur and Dr. Pranabesh Ray,Dean [Academics] at XLRI.

Mr. H M Nerurkarcommented that, Today, ethical deficit and lack of integrity in public affairs have become such a major issue that public confidence and trust in public officials and private organizations have taken a severe beating in our nation.

XLRI in association with select Tata Group Companies established the JRD Tata Foundation in Business Ethics in 1991, to mark their long-standing commitment and contribution to business ethics in India. XLRI is the first B-school in the country to introduce a core course on Managerial Ethics for both its HRM and BM programmes. Each year, XLRI confers a medal on the best student in Managerial Ethics at the institutes annual convocation.
