UGC draft guidelines: EPSI to hold interactive meeting with PGDM B Schools heads on Dec 28 in New Delhi

Soon after its meeting with Union Minister Pallam Raju, where it succeeded in getting the date-extension for submitting feedback to UGC on its draft guidelines on technical education, Educational Promotional Society of India (EPSI) is organizing a meeting with the chairmen and directors of PGDM B Schools & MBA program onDecember 28, 2013in New Delhi.

The theme of the EPSI meeting is FutureRegulatory Framework for MBA PGDM, (In reference of April 2013 Verdict of the Honble Supreme Court).The meet is expected to gather the feedback about the fallout of the controversial UGC draft guidelines for the technical institutes.

The eminent speakers who will be participating in the meet include Dr Pritam Singh, Director General, IMI New Delhi; Dr Bibek Banerjee,Director, IMT Ghaziabad; Dr H Chaturvedi, Alternate President of EPSI and Director, BIMTECH,Greater Noida; Shri Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman, Jaipuria Group; Dr R Nandgopal, DirectorPSG Institute of Management;Dr.R.K. Our readers will know that on December 16, 2013 EPSI managed to persuade Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to extend the deadline for collecting the feedback on the draft UGC guidelines for regulating the Technical Education.A 12-member EPSI delegation, lead by Dr G Vishwananthan, Chancellor, VIT University & President of EPSI and Dr H Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH & Alternate President EPSI, met Dr Pallam Rajumet Union Minister of Human Resource Development M.M.Pallam Raju on December 16, and shared its concerns about the rushed manner in which UGC was trying to push through this important regulation, giving stakeholders just 5 days to give their feedback. Minster Pallam Raju is believed to have accepted EPSIs plea and has extended the deadline for consultation to December 31.In its meeting with the HRD MinisterEPSI is believed to have also discussed the impact of UGC Guideline on PGDM institutions.

To trace back the development for our readers, on December 3, University Grants Commission (UGC) hadannounced new draft guidelinesto regulate thousands of technical colleges including engineering and management schools in the country. UGC had asked education institutions for any feedback to be given by December 9, just 6 days to file their objections. EPSI and other education bodies had objected to this hasty move by UGC. This move by UGC comes seven months after the Supreme Court Verdict that questioned the authority of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to regulate technical education.

The new guidelines suggest that UGC is likely to regulate the 3500+ MBA programs offered by Public Universities and their affiliating colleges.
