Boston Professor Dr. Sushil Vachani is new IIM Bangalore Director
Boston Universitys Professor of Strategy and Innovation Dr. Sushil Vachani is the new Director of IIM Bangalore. He takes charge from July 1, 2014.
After a long wait, IIM Bangalore will finally have the new Director. Boston Universitys Professor of Strategy and Innovation Dr. Sushil Vachani has joined as the Director of IIM B from July 1, 2014. Dr Vachani is IIT, IIM, Harvard Business School graduate, and has advised leading companies like BCG, Phillips and Tata Group.
As Indian B-schools, including IIMs, figure lowly on global accreditations and rankings, Dr Vachanis appointment is significant as it shows Ministry of HRDs interest in attracting the best global talent to head our B-schools. In a similar move, in 2013, Dr Ashish Nanda took over as the Director of IIM A from Harvard University. In his leadership, IIM A has taken many positive steps redefining its Vision and Fundraising for Research in last few months.
Indian MBA education watchers will have similar expectations from Dr. Sushil Vachani, hi-profile management academic, researcher, consultant and author.
During his twenty-eight year career at Boston University, Dr. Sushil Vachani served in a range of leadership positions including as the Faculty Director of the International Management Program in Japan, Chairman of the Strategy and Policy Department, and Chairman of the Doctoral Program and Special Assistant to the Universitys President for its India Initiative. He designed, taught and coordinated programs for students, executives and policy makers in the US, Japan, China and India.
Dr. Vachani received his doctorate in International Business from the Harvard Business School, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
Dr. Vachani has extensive managerial and consulting experience in both the US and India. He worked at the Boston Consulting Group developing strategies for US, Japanese and European multinationals. He also worked, in India, with Philips, the Tata Administrative Service and Tata Motors.
Dr. Vachanis research interests include the global institutional environment of business, multinational-government relations, corporate social responsibility, climate change, strategy and innovation at the base of the pyramid and the impact of NGOs on international business. His research has been published in leading journals including California Management Review, Harvard Business Review and Journal of International Business Studies. He has
published four books.
