CAT 2014: No Chance to edit the exam slot and day; prepare well and plan your schedule accordingly

With the CAT 2014 test day guide having been made available to the aspirants by CAT Centre 2014, it has been made clear that Candidates will not at all have the facility to request the CAT Centre to edit and change the exam slot and day according to their convenience. Since number of CAT 2014 takers are also going to appear in IIFT 2014 entrance test, they find them in a fix now. On the top of it, they are unable to get any amendment made in the exam city, day or slot as the same lies on the mercy of CAT Centre 2014 and has been printed in the Admit Card.

Admit Card Discrepancies: Edit Profile but Not Exam city or date

Although number of other restrictions in registration process existed and candidates were not allowed to edit the personal profile like change in date of birth, gender once they clicked on the submit button, the facility to edit the personal profile as mentioned in the Admit Card is going to be opened by CAT Centre 2014 from November 25 to 28, 2014.

CAT Centre 2014 has announced Discrepancy, if any, in Date of Birth and/or Gender can be edited on the CAT website from 25th Nov 2014, 10:00 AM to 28th Nov 2014, 05:00 PM. On the same note, If facility to edit the Profile is possible for CAT Centre 2014 it may also consider request of the candidates to change the exam city, day or slot. If it is allowed upto a certain date, most of the candidates who are the IIFT test takers also, will be benefitted.

IIFT Takers to face commuting problem

Number of candidates are going to appear in IIFT 2014 entrance test along with CAT 2014. Many of these candidates have not been allotted their preferred exam cities while dates and slots were already on the mercy of CAT Centre 2014. IIFT 2014 entrance test will be held in a single session on November 23, 2014 while many CAT 2014 takers have been allotted second slot on Nov 22, 2014 to appear in CAT 2014.

Major problem from which these candidates will suffer is that they are left with almost no time to commute from CAT 2014 exam city to IIFT 2014 exam city. These candidates during the registration process filled up the 3 preferred exam cities. CAT Centre 2014 also promised that in all probability the first choice of exam city will be allotted to the CAT aspirant. These candidates getting assured of getting the most preferred exam city to appear in CAT 2014 also filled up the same test city for IIFT 2014. But, when the CAT 2014 admit card was issued the most preferred exam city was not allotted to them and now they are in a fix whether to appear in CAT or in IIFT.

CAT second day allottees: No time to prepare for IIFT

There are thousands of candidates who have been allotted CAT 2014 exam afternoon session on November 22, 2014. Had CAT 2014 aspirants not been deprived of choosing the preferred slot of exam apart from finalizing the test centre and date, they would have selected November 16, 2014 as their preferred date, as it would have also given them one week time to prepare for IIFT exam.

How to deal with the tricky situation

Candidates preparing and appearing in both the exams i.e. CAT 2014 and IIFT 2014 should plan not only their preparation strategy but also have to sort out the journey plan.

Schedule of Preparation

According to Prof S K Agarwal, verbal ability expert and mentor, candidates should devote half an hour extra on IIFT preparation. While the preparation on Quant, DI, LR and Verbal Ability is more or less same as same topics are covered in both the exams, it is the General Awareness that needs extra time. Few minutes daily on reading and revising the conventional GK, current affairs and reading news paper will help a lot in this section. It is the time to attempt Mocks and get them analysed, so focus on them.

Planning the journey

Next is how to plan your journey. No doubt it will be a difficult process but since you have prepared well and wouldnt like to let your dream vanish in air, the best part is to find out the fastest means of conveyance to reach the destination. For example if your CAT centre is in Jaipur and IIFT centre is in Delhi, catch the Volvo bus service from Jaipur immediately after the CAT 2014 exam is over and reach Delhi by 10-11 PM. Take a good night sleep and be ready in the m orning for the IIFT entrance.
