Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, one of the leading B-Schools in India, opened its gates for the 2015-17 intakes of their flagship Post Graduate Programmes namely, Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), Human Resource Management (PGP-HRM) and International Management (PGP-IM). The event was held between 17th to 23rd June 2015 in the college’s auditorium. Students got a glimpse of what lies ahead for them in their life at MDI and their career graph thereafter.
The students were given a warm welcome into the campus by Prof. C P Shrimali, the Director of MDI through an inspiring lecture on the limitless scope of learning at MDI and the experience awaiting them through a new learning system without boundaries. He said, “Transformation of lifestyle to that of a B-school can often be overwhelming and cumbersome for the new students. Our post graduate programmes are rigorous with no scope for slippages. For many students, the transformation from a job to a full-time hostel life with impromptu sessions can be discomforting at first. Thus, we planned this week-long induction programme with a motive to introduce the students to life at MDI, and easing them into a change of lifestyle. This is to bring them up to a platform from where they can effortlessly manage the commitment and hard work demanded by the curriculum of their respective programs.”
During the induction ceremony, accomplished leaders from the corporate world Shri P. Dwarakanath (Director - Group Human Capital MAX India Limited), Mr. Sameer Nagpal (MD &CEO- Shalimar Paints), Mr. Nitesh Ahuja (MD, MITG Group), Col. S.P. Wahi (former chairman, ONGC), Mr. Pravin Subba (VP -HR & Admin, Micromax), Mr. Ashu Malhotra (HR Head, Jabong) and Mr. Sreedhar Prasad (Partner, KPMG) introduced the future managers to the dynamic environment of India.
The rest of the week involved an introduction to the academic and extra-curricular life at MDI. As a part of this activity, students were made familiar with the foundations of various courses with sessions on Economics, Accounting, Quantitative Methods, Case-based study approach, and so on. Students were also introduced to the various clubs, committees and SIGs that they can be a part of at MDI.
Freshers from the new batch shared their experiences. One of the students Govinda Bhuwalka from the new batch of MDI said, “The induction was very welcoming. Right from the time the admission offers were made, the senior students have been of great help which gave me a feel of the values and attitude of MDI. The induction programme guided us to inculcate skills to become good managers and entrepreneurs in future.”
On the whole, the Induction Ceremony 2015 acted as the perfect stepping stone for the new batch of students for their innings at MDI. It prepared them for the intellectually-exciting and professionally-productive journey that lay in store for them.
