MDI new batch of doctoral students discover relevance of imagination and ideation in research

MDI Gurgaon, one of the leading B Schools in India, has opened doors to its new batch of doctoral students on July 17, 2015
Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, one of the leading B-Schools in India, has opened doors to its new batch of doctoral students on July 17, 2015. Prof. Sanjay Govind Dhande (Member, BOG, MDI Gurgaon) was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Inspiring its new batch of doctoral students on the crucial role of research and development in the business environment, MDI Gurgaon, organised an induction ceremony for its Doctoral Programmes: Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM). The event was a stimulating affair for the students as they got a glimpse of what lies ahead for them in their life at MDI and their career graph thereafter. The ceremony began with a welcome address by Prof. M P Jaiswal, Dean-Research & Accreditation.
Throwing light on the new chapter of the academic life that the students were embarking on, Prof Dhande talked about the role of academic research in the growth and development of any business and said Imagination and ideation are the core spirit of research. A research cycle starts with an idea without which you wont be able to define a problem. According to Prof Sanjay Research is an essential part of any business that offers well-targeted products or services. It can be instrumental in defining a product mix for a business for example from defining the mix of various FMCG products that a firm should produce to different categories of in-patient beds that a hospital should have. Business decisions that are based on good market research can minimise risks and pay attractive dividends and hence b-schools such as MDI Gurgaon are turning more proactive in developing strategies to deliver their research services around what is relevant and in demand. It aspires to match the brand value of foreign b-schools by letting students imbibe knowledge that is relevant to the global markets today. Ecstatic doctoral students looked motivated when Prof. Dhande referred them as intellectual individuals.
Prof. CP Shrimali, Director of MDI in his address to the students advised them not to limit themselves in the 4 walls of the classrooms. He encouraged the students to participate in debates, discussions, conferences and seminars for a 360 degree development.
The number of students in the 2015 batch includes 21 doctoral students. The programmes (FPM/EFPM) are aimed at allowing the fellow researchers to create benchmarks and measure progress in order to be able to gauge the performance of any business.
The event involved students in hearty interactions with the faculty members of their respective programmes who gave them a detailed overview of the programme and introduced them to the course structure.
