IIM Raipur: admission criteria changed; non-engineers to get 6 point weightage

IIM Raipur has announced its admission policy with a vision to increase the number of non-engineers in its class rooms for flagship 7th PGP 2016-18 comprising 140 students

IIM Raipur, one of the new IIMs that started functioning in 2010-11 has announced its admission policy with a vision to increase the number of non-engineers in its class rooms for flagship 7th PGP 2016-18 batch. The batch size is proposed to comprise around 140 students.

While the 1st stage short listing at IIM Raipur is based on CAT 2015 scores similar to other IIMs, higher weightage to candidates with non engineering profile will be awarded by IIM Raipur at the final stage of selection. It will help to increase the non-engineering background candidates in the class rooms.

The final admission merit list at IIM Raipur will be prepared on the basis of Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 to be co-ordinated by IIM Kashipur for 6 new IIMs that started operation in 2010 -2011. CAP 2016 is proposed to be conducted in 5 cities namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata in the month of February/ March 2016.

Following the IIM Ahmedabad footsteps, IIM Raipur will also be awarding higher weightage in preparation of final merit list for PGP 2016-18 admission to Arts, commerce, humanities back ground candidates, although merit will remain the prime consideration. The objective is to promote academic diversity in its PGP 2016-18 batch.

Stage-1 shortlisting criteria Admission process 2016 at IIM Raipur will comprise CAT 2015 Examination scores based on which the candidates will be shortlisted for Personal Appearance (PA) process and then conducting the PA process. The PA process will be held common for all the 6 new IIMs and is composed of Written Analysis Test (WAT) and PersonalInterview (PI).

Required CAT 2015 score

CAT 2015 percentile score sectional as well as overall will be used at the first stage of shortlisting the candidates for WAT and PI. The minimum prescribed percentile to qualify for shortlisting is as follows:

Merit List with maximum weightage on Profile The final merit list post CAP 2016 will be based on following weightage to various components

CAT 2015 score: 32% weightage WAT & PI: 30% weightage Profile: 38% weightage

While the weightage of 32% to CAT 2015 score will be awarded in accordance to the sectional and overall percentile you received in the examination, the 30% weightage on Personal Appearance will be carry 10 for WAT and 20 for PI round.

Profile; high weightage area 38% weightage awarded on your profile will consist of 3 main areas-Academic Profile - 20; Work Experience 6; Diversity 12.

The 20 point weightage on academic profile awards you maximum 7 points for class 10 score beyond 90% marks; 6 points for class 12 score above 90% and 7 points for more than 90% marks in graduation.

Out of 12 point weightage assigned to diversity, 6 points will go to the non-engineering and 0 point will go to the candidates with engineering background. Following are the academic disciplines that will qualify for 6 point weightage at IIM Raipur Arts/Humanities comprising Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Languages, Liberal arts, Law, Library and Information Science, Mass Communication and Journalism, Music, Philosophy, Performing Arts (Dance/Drama/Theatre), Literature, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Statistics.

The weightage is also available to Commerce stream with Accountancy, Auditing, Banking, Chartered Accountancy, Costs and Works Accountancy. The weightage will also be awarded to Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Zoology; Medicine, Pharmacy and Management.

Apart from this, the balance 6 point weightage to improve diversity in IIM Raipur class rooms will be awarded to female candidates and no weightage will be awarded to other genders.

Work experience of less than 7 months will not be awarded any weightage while the maximum weightage of 6 points will be awarded to the work experience from 25 to 36 months.
