On the home page of CMAT 2016, AICTE has placed the link with the caption AICTE approved institutions using CMAT scores
Many B-schools that are included in the updated list of AICTE, although run the AICTE approved PGDM/MBA programmes have refused to accept CMAT 2016 scores as the shortlisting criterion for final admission process

AICTE has updated the list of institutes using CMAT scores and has made it available on its home page in the alphabetical order state wise. However, many B-schools that are included in the updated list of AICTE, although run the AICTE approved PGDM/MBA programmes have refused to accept CMAT 2016 scores as the shortlisting criterion for final admission process.

On the home page of CMAT 2016, AICTE has placed the link with the caption ‘AICTE approved institutions using CMAT scores’. The updated list of B-schools available on the AICTE website at the link http://www.aicte-india.org/dashboard/pages/approvedinstitutes.php doesn’t serve any purpose for the MBA/PGDM 2016 admission seekers as number of good B-schools mentioned therein in Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Uttar Pradesh and other states despite offering AICTE approved management programmes have neither earlier accepted CMAT scores nor would accept CMAT 2016 scores as admission criterion. It appears that AICTE has published the list to create more confusion among the admission seekers and to highlight that the highly ranked B-schools would accept CMAT 2016 scores and then wash its hands off when these B-schools refuse to accept the CMAT scores.

Updated list creates panic
Before applying to any good B-school on the basis of CMAT 2016 scores, you need to know whether the institute would offer you admission on the basis of AICTE-CMAT 2016 score card. AICTE conducted CMAT 2016 on January 17, 2016 and declared the result on January 21, 2016 claiming All AICTE approved Institutes / Departments / Constituent Colleges / Affiliated Colleges of Universities are expected to accept CMAT scores. The specific notifications issued by Universities and State Governments are available at CMAT 2016.

However, the list of B-schools using CMAT scores was not updated till a few days ago and now when it is updated 2 weeks after the declaration of CMAT 2016 result, it carries the same flaw that fails to determine whether the B-school will at all accept the CMAT 2016 score as claimed by AICTE or the confusing announcement by AICTE will further aggravate the panic situation.

B schools refuse to accept CMAT 2016 scores
The updated list of B-schools on CMAT 2016 website contains the names of top rated B-schools like IMI, IMT, MDI, BIMTECH, FORE, LBSIM, SPJIMR, TAPMI among others. None of these B-schools would consider CMAT 2016 scores in their admission process 2016.

The earlier list of B-schools that continued to be available for 3 years on AICTE website was never updated and during the period many B-schools despite offering AICTE approved MBA/PGDM never accepted CMAT scores. Now the same list has been placed in a different and revised form on CMAT 2016 website by AICTE. The CMAT 2016 takers continue facing the same dilemma and are still confused which B-school in the updated list would accept CMAT 2016 scores.

Now, if the candidate applies to the B school, pays the application fee and submits CMAT 2016 scores to the B-school, and to his dismay he finds that the B school will not shortlist the candidates on the basis of CMAT 2016 scores, how should he react? Please be careful when you apply to any of the B schools included in the AICTE-updated list of institutions.

FORE, New Delhi: No CMAT scores
FORE school of Management, Delhi in on AICTE approved list of institutes but it wouldn’t accept CMAT 2016 scores for admission to PGDM 2016-18 batch. The highly ranked B school will accept CAT 2015/ XAT 2016 and GMAT scores but not the CMAT 2016 scores. There is not even a remote mention in FORE admission process 2016 that it could accept CMAT scores.

IMI New Delhi: Not accepting CMAT scores
International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi wouldn’t accept CMAT 2016 scores for PGDM admission 2016.

IMI New Delhi admission application process, on the other hand says that it would accept only CAT 2015 and GMAT scores to shortlist the candidates for their flagship PGDM admission batch 2016-18. The admission application process at IMI Delhi closed on January 25, 2016.

IMT, Ghaziabad: No CMAT scores
IMT Ghaziabad accepted CAT 2015, XAT 2016 and GMAT scores for admission 2016. The B-school recently re-opened its application process especially for XAT 2016 exam takers after the result for XAT 2016 was declared on January 26, 2016. IMT Ghaziabad does not accept CMAT scores, so be careful before applying to IMT Ghaziabad on the basis of CMAT scores. However, CMAT 2016 scores are accepted at IMT Hyderabad and Nagpur campuses.

MDI Gurgaon: No to CMAT scores
MDI Gurgaon accepted only CAT 2015 scores to shortlist the candidates. The name of the B-school is also included in the AICTE list. Although it offers AICTE approved PGDM but doesn’t accept CMAT scores.

SPJIMR, Mumbai: No CMAT scores accepted
SPJIMR, Mumbai was also mentioned in the AICTE list.  The fact that SPJIMR does not accept the CMAT score has not yet prompted the AICTE to update its list.

SPJIMR, Mumbai is one of the top rated B schools in India. The admission application process to its flagship PGDM programme has already been closed. The B school accepted CAT 2015 and XAT 2016 scores apart from GMAT scores. But the CMAT 2016 scores are not accepted by this B school as one of the shortlisting criteria for admission 2016.

LBSIM, New Delhi: Only CAT 2015 scores acceptable
Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) New Delhi is also one of the renowned B schools in Delhi and is AICTE approved. So far AICTE has been claiming that LBSIM would accept CMAT scores. But LBSIM admission eligibility and process declares the acceptance of CAT 2015 scores only. CMAT 2016 scores would not be accepted by LBSIM as the admission process clarifies.

Be careful
There are number of AICTE approved institutes who are not going to accept CMAT 2016 scores and probably this is the reason that AICTE continued shying away to display the updated list of B-schools on its site before the exam.

Going by AICTE claim that its approved institutions would be using CMAT 2016 scores, means that all the AICTE approved institutes should be using CMAT 2016 scores in admission 2016. However,  the admission process of these B schools has no mention of CMAT 2016 scores. The aspirants should be on their guard before applying to these institutes as many of them do not accept CMAT 2016 scores.

It is difficult to assume and ascertain that the list is updated for admission session 2016-17. The question whether the list of AICTE approved institutions also means the list of institutions accepting CMAT 2016 scores is an important big issue. In fact it is not necessary for the B school to accept CMAT score for admission even if the respective PGDM/MBA programme is approved by AICTE.
