IIM Ranchi Placement 2016: Average salary up; International package at 55 lakhs

Placement 2016 at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi has recorded new heights, reveals the IIM Ranchi final placement report. Placement 2016 has crossed the milestone of past 5 years and has showed a substantial upward trend with 171 offers made to the 156 PGDM and PGDHRM students who participated in placement 2016 reinforced the faith of corporate sector in IIM Ranchi.

IIM Ranchi maintained its upward trend in placement for another consecutive year and has busted the myth of economic slowdown with a rising trend in highest, average and median salary packages.

Key Placement trends The placement season 2016 at IIM Ranchi, the 9th Indian Institute of Management has seen a rise in number of recruiters, first time recruiters, highest salary and average salary despite a large batch size among new IIMs.

Large batch size The 2014-16 class comprises 160 students. Out of them 122 students are in PGDM 2014-16 batch and 38 students are in PGDHRM 2014-16 batch. 4 students did not participate in Placement 2016 and have opted out to explore entrepreneurship or other opportunities.

PGDM 2014-16: 13% rise in Average salary There are 122 total students studying in PGDM 2014-16 batch. Out of them 3 students did not participate in placement 2016. The PGDM batch witnessed 61 companies visiting the campus to make 132 offers to 119 students.

Sales and Marketing was most preferred functional area for IIM Ranchi graduates. Students had equal preferences for other domains like Consulting, Finance, IT & Analytics, Operations and General Management. The rising trend in placements was corroborated by the increase in the average compensation by 13%. Over 12% of the batch has received offers greater than 20 LPA. The average CTC for the top 25% and 50% of the batch stands at 19.73 LPA and 16.98 LPA respectively. This season saw 18 Lateral offers to the people with higher prior work experience.

Beating the slowdown in placement offers, the placement season 2016 for PGDM students at IIM Ranchi saw an overall rise in Average salary to Rs. 15.14 lakhs and Rs.14.80 lakhs for domestic salary as compared to Rs. 13.4 lakhs in placement 2015. The highest international salary in placement 2016 has gone up to Rs.55.23 lakhs and highest domestic salary stands to Rs.25.5 lakhs for PGDM batch.

PGDHRM 2014-16: 7% rise in average salary IIM Ranchi is the only IIM to offer a specialized 2-year course in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM). The course structure is designed by the NHRDN and is continuously updated with the help of top academicians and industry experts.

The batch of 2014-16 has 38 students and out of them 1 student opted out of the placement process. 37 students who participated in placement 2016 made their worth felt in the industry by bagging top offers from some of the biggest names in the country. 24 companies visited the campus to roll out offers to the HR students. 13 new recruiters participated in the placement process. The growth of the average compensation by 7% is testimony to the trust that the industry has in IIM Ranchi graduates.

Average salary for PGDHRM 2014-16 batch has increased to Rs.13.49 lakhs in placement 2016 from Rs.12.6 lakhs in placement 2015. The highest salary offered has also gone upto Rs.20.2 lakhs in placement 2016 from Rs.17 lakhs in 2015.

Rise in PPOs Pre placement offers (PPOs) also saw an upward trend. 30 PPOs (Pre-Placement Offers) were made to the PGDM students and 12 PPOs were offered to PGDHRM students from their summer internships.

37% recruited in Sales & marketing Function Sales & Marketing emerged as the highest recruiting function in Placement 2016 with 37% of the batch getting placed in it. Consulting contributed 15% followed by IT & Analytics with 14% and operations with 13%. Finance contributed 11% followed by General Management with 10%.

Diverse offers Diverse profile offers were made to the IIM Ranchi students during the placement 2016 by the recruiters. In Sales & marketing domain the offers were made for Corporate Brand Management, Digital Marketing, Business Development Media Marketing, E-commerce, International Marketing.

In finance domain offers were made for Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Treasury Risk Management, Equity Research Asset Management, Retail Product Management. In Operations the offered roles were for Head - FTL & LTL, Supply Chain Consulting, Fleet Management , Ancillary Revenue & Cost Management, Warehouse Management, Supply Chain Strategy.

Consulting, Analytics and IT had offers for roles as Senior Consultant, Consultant, Business Development, Analyst, Account Manager. General Management domain made offers for the role in Leadership and Group Management, Strategy.

IIM Ranchi was established in 2010 and is the 9th in the IIM Family. It is the only IIM offering a specialized PGDHRM course. The B school currently offers a 2 year PGDM in General management and another 2 year fulltime programme on Human Resources Management (PGDHRM), Fellow Program in Management and 18 month part time Diploma in Management (PGEXP). IIM Ranchi has also launched a certified Barefoot Manger program to promote entrepreneurship and to impart livelihood skills among the school drop outs and illiterates.
