CAT 2016 will be convened by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. Professor Rajendra K Bandi, faculty on Decision Sciences and Information Systems; Chairperson Admissions & Financial Aid, IIM Bangalore is the convener for CAT 2016.

IIM Bangalore will be convening CAT 2016 in partnership with the CAT testing agency TCS in the months of October/November 2016. Sharing the information, the sources have categorically stated that instead of assigning the responsibility of conducting CAT 2016 to any other IIM, it has been decided that the No.1 ranked IIM Bangalore in NIRF Ranking 2016 should carry on the process of conducting CAT 2016.

This is the first time since CAT has gone green and has adopted the computerised exam format in 2009 that IIM Bangalore has been assigned the responsibility to convene CAT 2016. While IIM Ahmedabad convened the first computerised CAT in 2009, IIM Lucknow convened CAT 2010 followed by IIM Calcutta convening CAT 2011 and IIM Kozhikode convening CAT 2012.

IIM Bangalore takes over from IIM Ahmedabad

Last year CAT 2015 was convened by IIM Ahmedabad under the convenership of Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay who brought in number of changes in CAT exam with the aim to provide level playing field for all the CAT aspirants coming from different streams like Science, Engineering, Commerce, Humanities, Arts among others.  For the first time in the history of CAT, non-MCQ type questions without penalty of negative marking were introduced in CAT 2015.

It was only IIM Indore who remained in saddle to convene CAT for 2 consecutive years in 2013 and 2014 under the convenership of Dr Rohit Kapoor. Even the change in testing partner from Prometric to TCS for CAT 2014 continued with Dr Rohit Kapoor as CAT 2014 Convener.  Despite many odds and changes in CAT 2014 testing window and exam pattern, the exam was conducted quite successfully with number of positives.

After conducting 2 Common Admission Tests in 2014 and 2015 with IIM Indore and IIM Ahmedabad, the testing partner TCS appears to have grown more matured in 2016. For CAT 2016 TCS will have to co-ordinate with IIM Bangalore. Hopefully, IIM Bangalore may continue to convene CAT 2016 as well as CAT 2017 depending upon the CAT convening policy of IIMs.

IIM Bangalore is known for its different approach in admission process and curriculum in PGP programme and it may bring about more changes in CAT 2016 structure as well as contents. Even a 100 percentiler in CAT may not be sure whether he would get shortlisted or convert his call at IIM Bangalore since the parameters are different. Accordingly, taking lead from the revolutionary changes started in CAT 2014, and continued in CAT 2015, IIM Bangalore may move forward to bring more aspirant friendly changes in CAT 2016.
