AICTE order issued to the institutes to discontinue 5 year MBA with dual degree management programme will not be applicable to the five year IPM at IIM Indore
The said circular is not relevant to the 5 year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore Dr Parvez Akhtar, Authority on RTI matters, IIM Indore

AICTE order issued to the institutes to discontinue 5 year dual degree management programme will not be applicable to the 5 year IPM at IIM Indore, this fact has been conveyed by IIM Indore to MBAUniverse.com

Sharing exclusively with MBAUniverse.com in order to clear the fog whether the circular instructions issued by AICTE  to discontinue 5 year BBA/MBA dual degree programme from 2016 would apply to IIM Indore also, Dr Parvez Akhtar, Authority on RTI matters at IIM Indore has clarified “I would like to clarify that IIM Indore is an autonomous institution under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The said circular is not relevant to the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore. IIM Indore is committed to the continuing excellence of the IPM, one of the flagship programmes of the institute.”

Taking cognizance of the story published by MBAUniverse.com on its portal raising the issue, Dr Akhtar has promptly advised that IIM Indore would continue with its 5 year Integrated Programme on Management as the AICTE decision does not apply to IIM Indore.

AICTE has issued circular ref  File No. Southern/1,-2077381,4/87/2014/AB dated 19th May 2016 stating “The AICTE has decided the following: the dual degree courses have been closed and no fresh admission should be permitted from AY (academic year) 2016-17.”  Since IIM Indore is statutory autonomous institute under the purview of Ministry of HRD and does not need AICTE approval, the decision would not be applicable to IIM Indore.

Know about the IPM at IIM Indore
Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore was started in the year 2011 to meet the aspirations of young undergraduate students. Those who have passed class 12 with 60% marks and are below 20 years of age are eligible for 5 year IPM programme.

At the end of the 5 year academic experience, the participants are awarded a Diploma by IIM Indore viz Integrated Diploma in Management (IDM). There is no exit option during the programme. In every year participants have to meet the rigorous academic requirements to qualify for promotion to the next year and the award of diploma at the end of the fifth year

The candidates will be selected on the basis of overall performance in Aptitude Test and Personal Interview. Any candidate who fails to appear in either Aptitude Test or Personal Interview or both shall not be considered further during the selection process.  IIM Indore offers admission to 120 students to its IPM programme.

AICTE compensates with New guidelines
In the same circular AICTE has issued new guidelines that compensate for the decision to discontinue the dual degree programme in AICTE approved institutes. According to the new guidelines issued by AICTE “The Institutions who were running dual degree course (s) are given Extension of Approval for five [05) years Integrated MBA courses in lieu of five (05) years dual degree courses of MBA/ MAM introduced by AICTE.”

For those who are studying in these courses AICTE has provided “There will be an exit option at the end of three years for the students, who have joined the dual degree courses in 2015-16 and prior to that, by awarding a BBA (bachelor in business administration) degree instead of a BM (bachelor in management) degree.”

Since AICTE is not the controller of IIMs, its decision would not apply to IIM Indore also and the 5 year Integrated Programme on management at IIM Indore would continue without any obstacle.
