In the current second wave of Corona Virus outbreak, while many top B-schools are yet to close their MBA/PGDM admission process for 2021-23 batch and yet to come up with their strategy to complete Summer Internships, and Final Placements, the SDMIMD Mysore has met these challenges by taking proactive steps. SDMIMD has closed the admission process 2021 for its flagship PGDM programme and has completed its final placement 2021 achieving 100% placement.
Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore is double crowned management institute with two prestigious international accreditations –
ACBSP and EFMD. Besides, SDMIMD is a Member for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Moreover, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has recognized the SDMIMD 2-Year Full-Time PGDM Program as being equivalent to MBA. The B-school also enjoys National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
With so many national and international accolades meeting the industry needs, SDMIMD, in the view of Dr N R Parasuraman, Director of SDMIMD, has improved the ranking considerably among top B-schools in India. SDMIMD has completed its PGDM Admissions and has closed the process now. The institute had completed its Summer Internships and Final Placements 2021 much earlier than many of the top B-schools.
In an exclusive interview with MBAUniverse.com, Dr N R Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD Mysore shares the plans and proposed initiatives with the strategy to overcome the impact of Covid pandemic situation, key facilities developed to enhance the learning outcome and how the SDMIMD is emerging as one of the top B-schools in India in various rankings. Has SDMIMD Mysore closed its admission 2021 or the application process is still open for fresh students to apply for PGDM admission 2021?
The admission process has been completed and is closed except for waitlisted candidates, who will get an admission opportunity should any of the selected candidates withdraw.
What are the key changes that were introduced in admission process 2021 in view of Covid pandemic?
We have been forced to have more online interviews and we find that this has met with greater acceptance from the candidates. We did conduct direct interviews in many centres. Other than this, there have been no changes
How have been the placements 2021? What are the key trends?
The Placement Process for the 2021 batch has been completed with 100% placements. The average salary has gone up. We found that companies took in lesser number of students each, and hence we had to tap a larger base. But the process itself went off smoothly and was successfully completed. What are the key initiatives being planned for students in coming year?
We are planning a number of orientations to further social responsibility and free learning in keeping with the National Education Policy. The Social projects which students undertake have been frame worked to be more exciting and result oriented. A wider number of electives have been offered for the students and altogether we hope to have an exciting academic year.
How is SDMIMD adapting to COVID 19 related disruptions? What steps are taken to ensure that learning doesn’t stop?
We had introduced a refined online experience last year, with the introduction of writing boards and rtwin cameras to facilitate simulation of the actual class. Towards the end of the academic year, face-to- face sessions were also held.
When does SDMIMD plan to open its campus for 1st Year and 2nd Year students?
For the Second-year students, we plan to re-open classes on schedule in the first week of June. Hopefully, the COVID situation will ease by then, and we will be able to hold face-to-face classes following necessary norms of social distancing. The new First-year students are due to join only from July 1st and we hope to have them on time for direct classes. As Plan B, we have prepared ourselves for online classes for the 2nd year students. Here, we are particular that we will not waste any time and start classes on schedule, by whichever mode.
How do the ACBSP& EFMD-EPAS Accreditations influence SDMIMD as a management institute?
We at SDMIMD feel that it is a validation for all the progress that the Institute has been making in both the academic and research fronts. Apart from earning ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs), USA; EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) - EFMD's Program Accreditation System (EPAS) for 2-Year PGDM Program, SDMIMD is also the Business Educational Alliance Member for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The international accreditation, international tie-up, research activities, meeting the industry needs by the institute in terms of teaching and learning, and other developments in the institute have made us improve the ranking considerably.
How is SDMIMD Ranked in top rankings?
Recognizing the overall excellent practices at SDMIMD, I Gauge, the Indian wing of the global ranking agency QS, has rated us in the highest Diamond category. Recognizing the noticeable impact that SDMIMD has been making for its stakeholders, EFMD has also awarded the prestigious BSIS label to us
SDMIMD has always performed to be among the Top 50 B-Schools in the Country in all the B-School Surveys. The rating among the South India B-Schools and Private B-Schools for SDMIMD are quite satisfactory and we are placed within 30th Place. SDMIMD has been placed at 39th position in MBA Universe.com B-School Ranking 2020-21.
Q. Please share how the SDMIMD alumni are a key strength of their alma-meter?
SDMIMD has an active Alumni Association – ‘PRERANA’ with thousands of well placed alumni located across the globe. The alumni association undertakes number of key activities including Webinar to the current PGDM Batch(s); Panel Discussion on Selected Topics; Societal Supportive Activities during COVID time; Admission and Placement Support- involving key alumni as part of the selection interviews and placement preparation seminars; frequent workshops and sessions by alumni to students and the Prerana Social Media Platform for sharing of Information.
Admittedly, the activities of the alumni association Prerana was not as vibrant in 2020-21 as in previous years because of the pandemic. This year, we have started discussing with the office bearers of the alumni association on more interactions, mentoring sessions, projects and development workshops.
What is your message to the candidates seeking admission to SDMIMD Mysore?
