A month has not passed since Prof M. Chandrasekhar has taken charge as first Director of IIM Visakhapatnam on March 22, one of the 7 newest IIMs, the IIM Visakhapatnam has got 80% of its students of the very 1st PGP 2015-17 batch, finally placed with high compensation packages and has proved that it would remain 1st among its peers. IIM Visakhapatnam is the only one among the 7 newest IIMs that has announced and shared interim Final Placement report for the PGP batch 2015-17.
The achievement is more significant as IIM Visakhapatnam has been able to place its students across companies, sectors and industries, before their convocation to be held shortly.
80% Batch placed
With 46 eligible students from the first graduating batch participating in the final placements process, IIM Visakhapatnam received an early positive response from recruiters with 4 students securing pre-placement offers from Directi, KPMG, Sutherland Global, and Technology Frontiers based on their high performance in their summer internships.
Another 31 students accepted offers in the final placement process, one student will join the FPM program at IIM Ahmedabad this year and one offer is held in abeyance.
Key trends in Placement 2017
This is the 1st final placement season for IIM Visakhapatnam. Out of the 80% placed students, The top 11 of offers accepted averaged Rs.14.57 lakhs. The next quartile of 11 offers accepted averaged Rs.11.16 lakhs.
The average salary of the 35 accepted offers is Rs.11.59 lakhs while the median of the 35 accepted offers is Rs.10.92 lakhs.
GoAP recruits 10 students
IIMV has already emerged as a sought-after source in the country for good managerial talent. The highlight of the final placements, according to the Career Development Services Office, IIMV, was the participation of multiple departments of the Government of Andhra Pradesh which recruited 10 students of IIMV for prestigious consultant designation roles.

Sectoral Placement
The industry spread of the 35 accepted offers is: Government Consulting (31%), Banking Financial Services and Insurance (20%), Technology (14%), IT/ITES/Analytics (15%), FMCG (6%), Logistics (6%), Infrastructure (6%) and Others (2%).
Domain-wise placement
The functional spread of the 35 accepted offers is: Consulting (28%), Marketing and Sales (23%), Operations (11%), Strategy (9%), Analytics (9%), General Management (6%), Finance (3%), Product Management (3%) and Others (8%).
Selections are in progress for the remaining 9 students by corporates and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Career Development Services (CDS) at IIM Visakhapatnam enables potential recruiters to find students who meet their hiring requirements and enables IIMV students to find roles matching with their career goals. IIM Visakhapatnam operates with policy guidance from IIM Bangalore. For the IIMV batch of 2017, almost all courses were taught by IIM Bangalore faculty (current and retired) or by visiting faculty who teach at IIM Bangalore.
IIM Visakhapatnam is one of the 7 newest IIMs that started operation in 2015-16 and is the 1st IIM among its peers to achieve 80% final placement for its maiden batch. IIM Visakhapatnam came into being in 2015 as one of the 6 IIMs announced in the Union Budget 2014. While 5 of the 6 IIMs got finalized in the Budget 2014, the fate of IIM Visakhapatnam took the final shape in the Budget 2015 till then it remained a Government Ordinance entity. IIM Bangalore is the mentor IIM to IIM Visakhapatnam. The temporary campus at IIM Visakhapatnam doesn’t have on campus hostel accommodation and candidates of the first batch were accomodated to off campus hostel accommodation.
Classes at IIM Visakhapatnam are held at the temporary premises allotted to it at Andhra University campus and will continue at the temporary campus till the 300 acre campus of IIM Visakhapatnam gets ready.
IIM Visakhapatnam is about to begin its final admission process and is sending e-mails to the eligible candidates to confirm their interest in IIM Visakhapatnam. After receiving the confirmation of interest IIM Visakhapatnam will conduct PI-WAT round. The minimum qualifying CAT 2016 percentile cut off as announced by IIMV for the shortlist is 90.
