Notification for CAT 2017 exam to be convened by IIM Lucknow is proposed to be released in the last week of July 2017. Responding to the MBAUniverse.com query, Convener of CAT 2017 Prof Neeraj Dwivedi, faculty and admission chair at IIM Lucknow says “CAT-2017 notification is likely to appear in newspapers towards end of July.”
In view of the experts observing the CAT exam notification trends over the years, the CAT 2017 notification would be released on Sunday, July 30, 2017. The reason behind this date is that CAT notification during the past years was released on the last Sunday of July and since July 30 is the last Sunday of the month, CAT 2017 aspirants should expect the CAT notification to come out on this date. Going by this trend, it can be inferred that CAT 2017 Notification will be available in news papers on July 30, 2017.
CAT 2017, the largest MBA entrance test is expected to bring more changes on the line and pattern, it has adopted during past 3 years. Experts also expect a few more surprises in the exam.
TCS will remain the testing partner for CAT 2017. The exam is proposed to be conducted in the month of December this year. High sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2017 will provide admission opportunity in 20 IIMs and other highly ranked B-schools in the country.

CAT 2017: Notification details
CAT 2017 notification will be released in leading news papers along with all the details regarding CAT 2017 exam. The important information that CAT 2017 notification will contain would be - opening and closing of CAT 2017 registration date, CAT eligibility, date of release of CAT 2017 admit card, CAT application fee, CAT 2017 exam dates, CAT test centres, CAT 2017 result date, various management programmes in IIMs, IIM admission process among other key details.
There will be many firsts in the notification including:
- CAT 2017 testing window-whether it will be a single day or multiple days exam with number of sessions
- Key eligibility criteria to appear in the exam. Last year IIMs allowed the candidates with 2 years of university recognized graduate degree in old pattern as eligible to appear in the CAT exam. It is to be seen whether this eligibility criterion continues in CAT 2017.
- Information about the number of test cities, option to choose the number of preferred test centres would be shared by IIM Lucknow in the CAT 2017 notification.
CAT 2017 Registration: To open in Aug 1st week
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 registration is expected to open in a week’s time from the date of release of CAT 2017 Notification. Accordingly, it is anticipated that CAT 2017 registration will commence on August 7 and will continue till late September 2017 for at least 50 days from the date of commencement. CAT 2017 does not propose to offer any facility of Off- line registration and all the registration related activity shall have to be completed on-line only.
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 is the mandatory exam for admission to flagship post graduate management programme in 20 IIMs and other top rated B schools namely FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, Management courses in IITs, and hundreds of other prominent B-schools.
CAT 2017 in revamped mode
The total overhaul of CAT began in 2015 when IIM Ahmedabad convened the exam under the convenership of Prof Tathagat Bandyopadhyay who brought significant changes in the structure and content in CAT exam pattern. The sole aim to revamp the CAT exam pattern was to bring more diversity in IIM class rooms. To a large extent IIMs have succeded in their mission also.
Although CAT 2016 convener Prof Rajendra K Bandi, faculty IIM Bangalore carried the same pattern forward, a few changes were made in the CAT exam pattern like reduction in number of No-penalty Non-MCQ type questions. Scoring pattern was changed and instead of awarding 3 marks for each correct answer only 1 mark was given.
Given the reputation of IIM Lucknow and its different academic approach, it is expected there would be more aspirant friendly changes in the CAT 2017 exam.
