IIM Kozhikode announces CAT 2017 cut offs for admission 2018: 35% weight to CAT; 60% to GD-PI-WAT

IIM Kozhikode, one of the 6 top IIMs, has announced the CAT 2017 cut offs and weightages to CAT scores as well as to other parameters for admission to PGP 2018-20 batch. While in the shortlisting for final selection round, CAT 2017 score will carry a weight of 75%, the final admission round will award a weight of only 35% to CAT 2017 percentile score and the admission offer will be more dependent upon GD/PI/WAT round which carries the 60% weight.

The admission policy and shortlisitng criteria of IIM Kozhikode have made it mandatory for CAT 2017 aspirants to score a minimum of 90 overall and 80 sectional percentile in CAT 2017 to be eligible for shortlisting by the B-school.

The minimum CAT 2017 score requirement does not mean the exact CAT 2017 score cut off  as the actual score taken as cut off may go up in shortlisitng process of the candidates. However the candidates without meeting the minimum score eligibility requirement may not be shortlisted by IIM Kozhikode after declaration of CAT 2017 result.

CAT 2017 score: 75% weight in shortlisting
The most important criterion for generation of merit list for WAT-PI for PGP 2018-20 at IIM Kozhikode will be CAT 2017 scores obtained by the eligible candidate. On a scale of 100, IIM Kozhikode will award 75% weightage to CAT 2017 score in shortlisting the candidates for WAT & PI round for Flagship PGP 2018-20 batch.

Accordingly, Performance in CAT is an important input in the admission process. Candidates should note that it is important to perform well in each section of the test. According to IIM Kozhikode admission policy 2018 ‘Scaled Scores from the three sections (with equal weightages) of CAT 2017 will be considered for the computation of the CAT Index Score. CAT Index Score will carry a weight of 75%.’

Following CAT 2017 percentile cut offs for different categories have been announced by IIM Kozhikode:

60% marks needed in Class X and XII
Minimum 60% marks are required to be eligible for shortlisting at IIM Kozhikode. The percentage of marks obtained in Class X and class XII would be the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marks sheet or grade sheet, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage.

IIM Kozhikode to call for registration
The candidates who have opted for IIM Kozhikode while completing the CAT 2017 registration and application form and fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria would receive a call for online registration for admissions to IIM Kozhikode.

Only those candidates who successfully complete the registration process will be considered for shortlisting for GD-PI-WAT round.

Shortlisting for GD-PI-WAT: Weightage allocation
After successfully completing the registration process as required by IIM Kozhikode for the admissions to PGP 2018-20, the candidates will be called for personal interview (PI) and GD/WAT. A shortlist of candidates in each category will be created based on an Aggregate Index Score (AIS). The AIS is computed based on the performance in CAT 2017, Class XII, Bachelor’s degree marks and work experience. The weight of each component in the AIS is as follows:

How the weightage calculated
IIM Kozhikode has prescribed the calculation of weightage to different components in its PGP 2018-20 admission policy. Key facts are shared below:

Weightage to Graduation marks
Graduation marks will be awarded maximum weightage of 7.5% on score percentage of 81+. No weightage will be awarded for a score of less than 60% marks in graduation.

Weightage to class 12 marks
A percentage of 81 or more in class XII Marks will fetch the weightage of 7.5% and less than 60% marks will not be awarded with any weightage in the shortlisting by IIM Kozhikode. No weightage would be awarded for class X marks.

Weightage to work experience
Work Experience will carry a maximum weightage of 5% on a scale of 100 in the shortlisting criteria of IIM Kozhikode. CAT 2017 takers with a work experience between 22 to 24 months will be awarded the maximum weightage while those with less than 6 months work experience will get 0% weightage.

Only paid and full-time managerial work experience, acquired after completing the Bachelor’s Degree will be counted as on January 31, 2018. Apprenticeship, Articleship, Internship etc., which form an integral part of a course of study, would not be treated as work experience.

Weightage to academic and gender Diversity
To ensure diversity, 5% weightage on a scale of 100 will be awarded for gender diversity or for academic discipline diversity related factors in the shortlisting for GD-PI-WAT round by IIM Kozhikode. Please note that 5% is the maximum weightage and will not be awarded separately for each factor.

All the above component scores will be combined to arrive at the Aggregate Index Score for each candidate that will be used to call sufficient candidates in each category for the second stage of admissions.

GD-PI-WAT process at IIM Kozhiokode
The short-listed candidates will have to appear for a GD/WAT followed by a Personal Interview (PI). IIM Kozhikode will conduct the PI and GD/WAT in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The entire process will last for a half-day (morning or afternoon) session where the candidate will be writing a short essay and participate in group discussion on the same topic, followed by personal interview. The topic will be announced at the venue just before the GD/WAT. The topics will typically reflect current political, economic, sports, business affairs, etc. During the interview, the panel will evaluate the academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits of each candidate.

Converting the call: Know the weightage
After the conclusion of PI and GD/WAT, the final scores will be computed based on the performance in CAT 2017 exam, PI, GD/WAT, and quality of professional experience. Category-wise merit list will be prepared based on the final scores. Admission offers will be made to candidates following the merit list as per the Government of India reservation norms.

Key Points in IIM Kozhikode admission process

  • The candidates’ short‐list for PI will be made available on the IIM Kozhikode website around the last week of January 2018.
  • The interview call letters, venue details will be made available on the IIM Kozhikode website and the candidates will have to download the same.
  • The Stage1 short‐listed candidates who have completed their personal profile form online only can attend the PI
  •  Subsequent to the GD/WAT and PI, the merit list for admissions will be prepared around the last week of April/first week of May 2018.
  • Required number of admission offers (available on the IIMK website) will be made from the merit list, in the order.
  • Hard copies of the admission offers will be issued only to those candidates who send the completed offer acceptance form together with payment details
