Top Scorers in all courses shortlisted
No other IIM has so far shortlisted the candidates with such low scores as has been done by the top ranked business school of the country – IIM Ahmedabad. The main reason behind shortlisting the candidates with low CAT percentile is the admission policy 2018 of IIM Ahmedabad which makes it mandatory to shortlist the top scoring students out of the applicants in their respective courses like journalism, business administration, arts and humanities, fashion designing, Law, Engineering among others.

IIM Ahmedabad has a list of more than 50 such courses and toppers in them as per the merit score. It includes CAT 2017 exam score and past academic record.

AWT & PI round begins in January end
Final round of admission is scheduled to start from January end. The shortlisting of candidates with low CAT score, according to IIMA officials, is an effort to provide an opportunity to students to prove their mettle and be part of IIMA’s PGP and PGP-FABM courses which have an intake of around 400 students.

IIM Ahmedabad has issued letter to the candidates who have scored below 90 percentile but it is not the case for other IIMs. Other IIMs focus on CAT score, while IIM Ahmedabad also choose top 50 students from each course out of the CAT applicants to appear for second round of admission.

Speaking about the unique shortlisting process at the top B-school, IIM Ahmedabad Admission Chair said, “IIM Ahmedabad calls candidates based on multiple parameters, CAT percentile is one of those parameters. These details can be found on the admission website. At IIMA, we believe that diversity in a management classroom is a must, and hence, our admission policy reflects that.”

IIM Ahmedabad declared the shortlist for final admission round on January 8, 2018 after announcement of CAT 2017 result  by IIM Lucknow. The shortlisting process for Admission to IIM Ahmedabad for the flagship PGP 2018-20 needs excellent academic profile and greater diversity than in earlier PGP batches. The top rated IIM Ahmedabad has awarded higher weightage to academic profile and diversity and has reduced the weightage for CAT 2017 scores for admission 2018-20 batch.

The first stage shortlisting based on CAT 2017 scores for admission to PGP 2018-20 batch at IIM Ahmedabad requires minimum 70 percentile in each of the 3 sections and minimum 80 percentile overall.
