JBIMS Mumbai Admission 2018
For admission 2018, JBIMS Mumbai will accept score of CAT 2017, CMAT 2018 and MAH CET 2018 exams

JBIMS Mumbai will offer admission to its flagship MMS 2018-20 course through DTE CAP 2018 to be conducted in the month of May 2018. There is no move by JBIMS to announce and conduct its own admission process as was done by it in 2015 and then announced again in 2017 but later changed its admission policy and made admission offer through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) conducted by DTE Maharashtra.

Since DTE Maharashtra will conduct Centralized Admission Process (CAP) 2018 for admission to all the 400+ participating MBA colleges including JBIMS Mumbai and will make seat allotment in the MBA colleges as per the merit score obtained by the candidates, there is no need to apply separately in JBIMS for admission.

After the MAH MBA/MMS CET 2018 notification release and MAHCET 2018 registration getting opened on January 22, 2018, candidates began searching for the changes in JBIMS Mumbai admission criteria for MMS 2018-20 batch, but have found None. However, JBIMS will participate in DTE CAP 2018 instead of conducting its own admission round.

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai, one of the premier and autonomous MBA colleges in India during the past few years has been following different admission process each year. The highly ranked JBIMS has changed its admission policy every now and then during last few years. Even after initially announcing its admission criteria for 2 years full time MMS programme, JBIMS changed its admission policy for the same academic session which put JBIMS admission seekers in a dilemma.

JBIMS Admission criteria: Changes
After acquiring the autonomous status in 2014, JBIMS has continued changing its admission policy during the last 3 years. The turns and twists in JBIMS Admission policy has baffled the candidates who explored admission opportunity through different MBA entrance exams.

In December 2016, JBIMS had announced that it would conduct its own admission process, later JBIMS took the U-turn and revised its admission policy which offered admission to flagship MMS programme through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) conducted by DTE Maharashtra for all the 400 MBA-colleges.

Following have been the key shifts in JBIMS admission criteria:

JBIMS to accept only CAT, CMAT & MAH-CET scores
For admission 2018, JBIMS Mumbai will accept score of CAT 2017, CMAT 2018 and MAH CET 2018 exams. In fact when JBIMS participates in DTE-CAP round, the exam scores accepted by this B-school are more but when it conducts its own admission process it accepts only two exams – MAHCET and CAT.

But for admission 2018, it appears that AICTE has asked all the Maharashtra B-schools participating in CAP round to accept CMAT scores by all means. DTE Maharashtra has also issued a notification to this effect. Now JBIMS alongwith other Maharashtra MBA colleges would accept CMAT 2018 score. The admission process at JBIMS during the past few years reveals this fact:

JBIMS formulated its own admission policy and did not participate in DTE CAP 2015

JBIMS fee: Increased to Rs.6 lakhs from Rs.2.04 lakhs
JBIMS has increased its fee by 300% for MMS course since last year. After being awarded the autonomous status, the JBIMS fee has gone up to Rs.6 lakhs from Rs.2.04 lakhs. It appears that the JBIMS fee is no more regulated by the ‘Shikshan Shulka Samiti (SSS)’ of Government of Maharashtra.

JBIMS Mumbai has remained the most preferred campus for MBA aspirants due to its legacy, high industry connect, good placements and low fee structure and was considered moving much on the lines as FMS Delhi of Delhi University is doing.

However, now the JBIMS fee structure matches the fee of many private MBA/PGDM colleges who are not getting any aid and grants from the Government.

Announcing the substantial hike in fee, JBIMS Mumbai released the brief note on ‘Revision of MMS Course Fees from the academic year 2017-18’ stating “Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Autonomous) announces the revision of course fees for its 2-year Masters in Management Studies (MMS) Programme. From the year 2017-18 onwards, the revised fees will be INR 3 Lakhs p.a for General Students.’

Apart from the domestic general category candidates JBIMS has increased the fee for NRI/PIO candidates as well and has informed “For NRI/FN and PIO students will be charged twice the amount of fee for General Students i.e. INR 6 lakhs p.a.” It means the 2 years MMS programme fee for the NRI/FN and PIO students will stand increased to Rs. 12 lakhs.

In terms of percentage hike in fee structure, JBIMS has left behind the IIMs who have resorted to 10 to 20% fee hike periodically. The 300% fee hike at JBIMS is the only example of steep fee increase in MBA/MMS/PGDM programmes in any B-school in India.

15% MMS seats for All India candidates
JBIMS has a total intake of 120 seats in the flagship MMS programme. Out of this intake 15% seats are allotted to All India category candidates.  Accordingly, there will be 18 seats for the All India category candidates for admission to MMS 2018-20 at JBIMS. Their merit list and cut offs will be separately prepared by DTE Maharashtra after the CAP 2018 is over.

MAH CET 2018: Time Lines
DTE Maharashtra has announced the MAH CET 2018 MBA/MMS entrance exam schedule and has opened MAH-CET 2018 registration process on January 22. The Registration for MAH CET 2018 MBA entrance exam will close on February 14.

Announcing the entrance exam dates of MAH MBA CET 2018 for admission to MBA/MMS/ PGDM 2018-20 batch in 400+ B schools including JBIMS, in Maharashtra, the State CET-Cell has issued the notification bearing ref no. CETCELL/MAH-MBA/MMS CET 2018 Notice-I/2018/82 dated 20-01-2018, sharing undernoted time lines:

Education at JBIMS is not limited to conventional class room experience. It is coordinated with vast industrial exposure also. JBIMS Mumbai is termed as ‘CEO producing factory’ by its students. The MBA college not only achieves 100% placement every year, the salary in each placement season goes on rising. Placement 2017 at JBIMS has recorded an average salary of Rs. 18.76 lakhs and highest salary of Rs.34.30 lakhs.
