MHRD-NIRF Ranking 2018 released: IIMs and universities dominate MBA Ranking
MHRD NIRF Ranking 2018 released on April 3, is again dominated by IIMs and Universities in MBA ranking positions. While IIM Ahmedabad has been ranked at 1st place, IIM Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow occupy 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively followed by IITs among top ten management institutes
MHRD NIRF Ranking 2018 released on April 3, is again dominated by IIMs and Universities in MBA ranking positions. While IIM Ahmedabad has been ranked at 1stplace, IIM Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow occupy 2nd, 3rdand 4thplaces respectively followed by IITs among top ten management institutes.
However, PGDM colleges have also gained higher ranking positions as compared to many IIMs. XLRI, MDI have been awarded 10thand 12thranking places respectively in overall NIRF Ranking.
Among the top 50 management institutes, Anna University, VIT Vellore, KIIT Bhubaneswar, XUB Bhubaneswar have been awarded top positions. Surprisingly, Lovely Professional University has been ranked higher than Benaras Hindu University (BHU) in the MBA ranking 2018.

Releasing the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2018 on April 3, 2018 at Vigyan Bhavan,Union HRD MinisterPrakash Javadekar said that the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has been ranked as the best management institution while Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has been adjudged the best engineering college and The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru has been adjudged as the overall best institution in India.

One of the highly ranked, high RoI and most preferred MBA colleges in India, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS)-University of Delhi has not been ranked among management institutes or colleges. FMS Delhi is not the only left out leading MBA college in the NIRF Ranking, there are other leading management institutes who have found no place in ranking. One of the anomalies in NIRF Ranking 2018 is that while IITs have been awarded ranking places both in Management and Engineering category, the universities equipped with top MBA departments or affiliated colleges have found no places in Management category. This evident as FMS Delhi, JBIMS, PUMBA have found no ranking positions.
Symbiosis Institute of BusinessManagement (SIBM) Pune, has been ranked for the first time while Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai has found a ranking position after a gap of one year in NIRF Ranking 2018.
Claiming that the Ranking Frameworks are similar, the exact methodologies adopted by MHRD are domain specific. Apart from ranking all the colleges, institutes and universities overall, the Ranking methods have been worked out for 5 categories of institutions namely Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Universities and Colleges.
NIRF Ranking 2018: Methodology
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been approved by the MHRD and was launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015.
This is the third ranking released by MHRD. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
