MBA Vs Engineering
One of the anomalies in NIRF Ranking 2018 is that while IITs have been awarded ranking places both in Management and Engineering category, the universities equipped with top MBA departments or affiliated colleges have found no places in Management category. This evident as FMS Delhi, JBIMS, PUMBA have found no ranking positions.
Symbiosis Institute of BusinessManagement (SIBM) Pune, has been ranked for the first time while Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai has found a ranking position after a gap of one year in NIRF Ranking 2018.
Claiming that the Ranking Frameworks are similar, the exact methodologies adopted by MHRD are domain specific. Apart from ranking all the colleges, institutes and universities overall, the Ranking methods have been worked out for 5 categories of institutions namely Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Universities and Colleges.
NIRF Ranking 2018: Methodology
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been approved by the MHRD and was launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015.
This is the third ranking released by MHRD. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
