Guru-speak: Prof Lalu Prasad to address students from University of Texas and University of Virginia
Union Railway Minister and turnaround guru Lalu Prasad Yadav will address a group of international management students from the University of Texas and the University of Virginia on 16th March at the National Railway Museum, New Delhi.
He will wax eloquent on his favorite topic: Turnaround of Indian Railways.
In the lecture the honble minister will touch upon subjects like Indian Railways economic rejuvenation and the growth oriented reforms with a human face.
The visiting group includes 35 students from the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas (Austin) and 22 students from the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.
In September last year, Lalu Yadav delivered a lecture to management students and the faculty at IIM-A, explaining how he turned around the Indian Railways from a loss-making operation to a public sector unit that stunned everyone by earning a profit of Rs 15,000 crore (Rs 150 billion) in 2005-06. He was invited to deliver a lecture after IIM-As Prof G Raghuram conducted a detailed study on the Indian Railways turnaround and decided to introduce the case study as a part of the curriculum. The minister graciously responded by setting up a Railway Chair at IIM-A for research in railway infrastructure and management. The Chair is expected to start functioning this year.
Leading global B-schools soon took to this trend: a meeting with our minister is an integral part of their Bharat Darshan. In December last year, students from Harvard Business School and Wharton Business School had come to India to interact with the Railway Minister.
This summer, Lalu Yadav is due to address leading global B-schools: he has been invited by University of Chicago, Stanford University and Harvard Business School to share first-hand tips on turnaround strategies. MBAUniverse.com promises to bring you highlights from these interesting interactions.
