It has been two weeks since IIFT 2011 exam was announced. The exam, which will be held on Sunday, November 27, has about four months to go.
The serious IIFT aspirants have already started preparing for the exam and are encountering several questions. Q: What would be the expected pattern in Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability, and to get a sure shot call, how many question should one ideally attempt in the respective sections? A: It has been observed in the recent IIFT papers that getting around 10 correct answers in each of the sections gets one a call. As far as the pattern is concerned, it keeps varying from year to year. Q: What is the difficulty level of the sections? A: Sections are usually of moderate level of difficulty. Data Interpretation section is usually calculation intensive and cumbersome. But, I suggest that students should enter the examination hall without any preconceived notion. Q: Does DI have direct questions or it may have cumbersome chain like calculations? A: DI in IIFT is mostly cumbersome. But it is not impossible to get direct questions hidden between the indirect ones. Q: How many questions should be attempted in GK Section? A: It depends on the difficulty level. it is always better to attempt good number of questions, but as there would be negative marking, so avoid making wild guesses. If you are 50 per cent sure of an answer, you can take a calculated risk. Q: From where can I prepare for General Awareness for the test? A: For GK, you can read different materials given by MBA coaching institutes. You can also purchase some good GK book and prepare. Current affairs are very important. Q: Will it be wise enough to do wild guesses in the paper, if the time is running out? A: No, wild guess is not advised at all. Remember, there is negative marking. But you can take some calculated risks if you are 50 per cent sure of the answer. Q: What are the important topics of Quant? A: Starting from numbers to geometry to probability, everything is important. You cannot afford to leave any section since you never know from which section they will give a relatively easy question. At the end of the day you have to come in top 1000 out of 50, 000 students! Q: I am preparing for CAT 2011 seriously along with other exams like IIFT, XAT, FMS. My question is you also have attempted these exams & what is your strategy to tackle the same? A. Yes, I also attempted CAT and XAT. The core aspects of your preparation remain the same. You just need to modify your preparation according to different exams. For e.g, IIFT also has a GK section. So you need to be aware about the current happenings. Q: How many minimum questions will you suggest that should be solved in the paper? What should be the attempting strategy? A. Keep no such benchmarks for the number of questions for the paper. Go about solving it as it comes because the difficulty level varies from year to year. Q: Does IIFT have sectional cut offs? They do not mention anything about this in the paper. Also, I would like to know about IIFT-Kolkata campus. How is it? A. If the cut-off is mentioned in the paper, it is there. If it is not mentioned, then there are no sectional cut-offs.
