NITIE, Mumbai organized ISO 14001: Environmental Management System (EMS) Conclave recently at its campus in Mumbai. Industry experts and corporate leaders shared their insights and sensitized students and faculty members of NITIE about the practical implementation of ISO 14001 across industries during the day-long conclave held on August 14.
Key speakers at the conclave included Mr. Ken Butler, General Manager, HSSEQ, Leighton Welspun, India; Ms. K. Nazarena, Senior Manager, HSE Corporate, HPCL; Mr. Devesh Ghuley, Dy. General Manager (SHE), Essar Projects India; Mr. Govind Pitre, Senior Manager- EHS, Mahindra Systech; Mr. Ravindra Mali, Associate Chief Manager (Safety), Godrej Boyce Mfg; Mr. Vishal Chavan, Auditor, Trainer, Consultant, Process Logix; Mr. Jaideep Singh Rathore, Corporate Manager- HSE and Sustainability, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Ltd; Mr. B.L. Matkar, HSSE Consultant, B.G. Exploration and Production India; and Mr. Shailendra Joshi, Assistant General Manager Environment, GVK.
While Mr Govid Pitre shared insights on the monetary and functional benefits of following an efficient EMS, Mr. S. Radhakrishnan spoke on practical implications of EMS and ISO 14001 and also discussed myths related to it.
Mr.Ravindra Mali who is an expert in environmental management highlighted the technical aspects and also discussed the sections of ISO 14001 in detail. He also shared with the students some industrial issues to which he could find very practical and efficient solutions.
Mr Shailendra Joshi, Asst. GM, GVK shared his experience working on the projects that are currently underway in both Mumbai and Bangalore airports. He talked about both the implementation and benefits of EMS and ISO 14001 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Terminal. He also shared the environment policy of the organisation that targeted reduction of consumption of resources like energy, water and paper during his presentation.
During another session, Mr. B.I. Matkar, HSSE consultant, DorfKetal shared his experience on practical implications of EMS in the chemical industry.
Mr Jaideep Rathore, Corporate Manager, HSE, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. explained the various ways in which better EMS could help increase the sustainability and efficiency of projects. He shared various case studies and also integrated the presentation with his personal ideas and views on incorporating EMS into an organisation.
