Tata Memorial Director to receive Lal Bahadur Shastri Award from President Pranab Mukherjee

Dr Rajendra Achyut Badwe will receive Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award 2013 on October 1 at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi by President of India.

Tata Memorial Director to receive Lal Bahadur Shastri Award from President Pranab Mukherjee

President of India will give away the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award to Dr Rajendra Achyut Badwe, Director of Tata Memorial Centre on October 1, 2013 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The Award, instituted by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), honors each year an Indian who has made exceptional contributions in areas like business, management practitioner, public administrator, or education. The honor carries a cash award of Rupees Five Lakhs. Past Awardees include Dr CK Prahalad, Mr Narayana Murthy and Sunil Bharti Mittal.

The award was decided by 12 members jury of Lal Bahadur Shastri Award, including Shri Shivraj Patil, Smt. Mohsina Kidwai; Professor D.K. Bandyopadhyay and Shri Anil Shastri, the Convenor of the Award.

Dr. Rajendra Badwe is an Oncologist Surgeon, Director of Tata Memorial Centre and Professor & Head of the surgical oncology Department in Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. Badwe had completed MBBS and MS from Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai. He has served Tata Memorial College-Mumbai, Toranomon Hospital-Tokyo and Guys Hospital-London. More than 100 research papers were published under his name and he is the member of 20 professional bodies.

Many distinguished leaders have received the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award in recent past. The Awardees include Smt. Aruna Roy, Shri Sunil Bharti Mittal, Dr. E. Sreedharan, Dr. Swaminathan, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Mr. N.R. Narayana Murthy and Mr. Sam Pitroda. Dr. C.K. Prahalad was the first person to receive this award in the year 1999.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award, instituted by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) honors each year an Indian, residing either in India or abroad, who is an exceptionally outstanding and distinguished business leader, management practitioner, public administrator, educator or institution builder for his/her sustained individual contributions and achievements of high professional order and excellence. The honor carries a cash award of Rupees Five Lakhs plus a Citation and a Plaque. The Awardees name is inscribed on the Roll of Honour of LBSIM and he/she is designated as Lal Bahadur Shastri Fellow.

New Delhi based LBSIM provides two year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Finance. Prof PK Biswas has taken over as director of LBSIM with effect from August 1, 2013. He has three decades of experience in research, teaching, training and consulting in the field of development management.
