IIM Ahmedabad strengthens the resources of Faculty and BOD

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad the prestigious B-school appointed Prof. Ashish Nanda as new Director of the Institute in September, 2013. Prof. Nanda who has served Harvard Law School for seven years and is a Gold Medalist from IIT-Delhi and IIM-A, succeeds Dr. Samir Barua and is all set to move forward to give a new direction to the institute. To further strengthen the faculty resources, appointment of three new deans has been announced by Prof. Nanda. On his recommendation, Mr. A.M. Naik, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM A has appointed Prof. Vasant P. Gandhi and Prof. Rekha Jain as Faculty Representatives on the Board of Directors on September 28, 2013. In pursuit of excellence, the premier B-school is on March to strengthen the academic quality and to maintain the status as a top B-School with new selections.

The three new deans appointed by IIM A are: Dr G Raghuram-Dean for Faculty, Dr Ajay Pandey- Dean for Programmes and Dr Arvind Sahay- Dean for Alumni & External Relations In addition, two Associate Professors and four Assistant Professors were also appointed in the Institute bringing the total faculty strength to 91. IIM-A started this process of improving facultystudent ratio in January 2013 and continued till September, 2013. These appointments have been made to sustain the competitive advantage of the Institute in the Country

Prof. Nanda has 25 years of experience of working in different branches of Harvard. A post graduate and Ph.D in Economics from Harvard University, he was faculty director of Executive Education and research director at Program on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School.

Prof. Vasant P. Gandhi, a Ph.D. from Stanford University, and a gold medalist of IIM Ahmedabad, has worked with the World Bank and is on the Board of Directors of several companies. The PGP-ABM programme designed by him and his team is currently ranked no. 1 in the world.

Prof Rekha Jain, presently the Executive Chair of IIMA-Idea Telecom Centre of Excellence, has worked with numerous international and domestic organizations, including World Bank, DFID, IDRC, NASSCOM, Sixth Pay Commission, Department of IT. She has a rich knowledge and experience in the area of Telecom Policy and ICT strategy. She is a member of several national and International committees and is specialized in working for infrastructural development and Public Private Partnerships. Dr G Raghuram has been the faculty at IIM Ahmedabad since1985. He was the Vice Chancellor of the Indian Maritime University from July 2012 to March 2013.Moreover, he taught at various National and International Universities like: India, USA, Canada, Yugoslavia, Singapore, Tanzania and UAE.

Dr Ajay Pandey served as a Professor at IIMA. He was the Director In-charge and the Officiating Dean of the Institute. He has over 18 years of experience in teaching, training and consultancy. He was the chairperson of the PGP programme of IIMA and chaired the Finance & Accounting area of IIM-A as well.

Dr Arvind Sahay joined IIM-A in the year 2004. He has taught the basic marketing courses. He worked for various consulting clients that include the various renowned brands and leading companies of the corporate world.

IIM A also appointed Associate Prof. Ramanathan Subramaniam for marketing area. He served University of Kansas before his candidature with IIM-A. In addition, Associate Prof. Pavan Mamidi is appointed for Business Policy area. He served IIM Bangalore as Assistant Professor and he was the visiting faculty at MIT & University of Michigan.

Moreover, Assistant Professors- Prof. Karthik Sriram, Prof. Vishal Gupta, Prof. Naman Desai, Prof. Sharon Barnhardt and Prof. Shruti Sharma were appointed for Production and Quantitative Methods, Organizational Behavior, Finance and Accounting, Public Systems, and Economics area respectively.

Prof. Karthik Sriram completed his Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and worked with GE for 8 years, Prof. Vishal Gupta successfully completed his Fellow Program in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow in the field of HRM and served as Assistant Professor in the HRM Group at IIM-C, Prof. Naman Desai finished his tenure at Dixon School of Accounting at the University of Central Florida as Assistant Professor, Prof. Sharon Barnhardt worked with Institute for Financial Management and Research as Professor and Prof. Shruti Sharma worked with worked with The Conference Board, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and UNICEF in her past.

IIM-Ahmedabad is one of the Top B-Schools in the World of Management. Many Business Leaders Like: Kiran Karnik (Innovative and Strategic Thinker), Chandrika Krishna Murthy Tondon (Singer from Soul Chants Music), Shikha Sharma( CEO and Managing Director of Axis Bank) with an endless list of leaders were the students of IIM-A.
