MBA Essay topics: Activism in India is the key to survival of democracy

Constant vigil is the price to be paid for survival of democracy. Whether these are the enlightened citizens of the society, print and electronic media, social activists, reformers -all are the parts of activism in a democratic system. More than 60 years have gone by since we adopted Democracy

India got freedom after a long struggle and formed a great constitution for making the country a welfare state bringing liberty, equality, fraternity with a view to make its citizens feel free and safe. It has to be ensured that the said values are not dying and the necessity of their healthy growth is being monitored for the survival of a free and vibrant society.

Law and practice are different

Our constitution clearly mentions that every citizen- regardless of gender, caste, creed- shall be equal before law and no discrimination shall be made on such grounds. But the daunting realities have contradictory stories to unfold. India with its thousands of sub-castes stands divided on the basis of social divisions at every nook and corner. People, children, women are suppressed.

MBA Essay topics: Need of Activism

The need of social uprising arises here. These are the activists who raise a voice against the atrocities and let the world know about the same. They educate the people, garner their support and try to get the wrong doings rectified.

This is the fear of activists that corruption and corrupt practices are catching the attention of people at large. The irregularities committed are being highlighted. Those who are under the watchful eye of activists which can be media, social networking, NGOs etc. will think twice to go for any corrupt practices.

Activism in fact is the activity that awakens the sleeping people about something going wrong and enlightens them what remedies are to be taken to get the things in order by themselves, by the arms of constitutional forces Parliament, Legislative assemblies, executive bodies administration, government and the Judiciary.

Necessary to protect women

Safety and empowerment of Women who are the catalysts of economic growth and social justice in a great democracy like India go on lacking despite all the rhetoric and formation of laws. They are not safe even in the big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Mangalore etc. where thousands of women work shoulder to shoulder with men. Tragic incidents of gangrape, kidnapping, chain snatching and even atrocities on them, by the defenders of law, take place. These are the social activists who cry foul, get the public opinion formed, gather in thousands, make the government bow before the constructive activism for the lapses committed by it.

Story of Vasant Dhoble, a policeman of Mumbai who got women paraded in front of Cameras calling them prostitutes; two girls who were caught by police simply for awakening the society for unnecessarily paralyzing the city of Mumbai; ghastly bus gangrape in Delhi; throwing of one day old dead body of a girl child in dust bin by Channan Devi Hospital in Delhi; Rape and death in West Bengal; Sexual harassment of a law intern by NHRC Chairman Justice Ganguly all that made the democracy veil its face in shame- got instant social activism sprung up with such intensity where entire nation became united and demanded due justice to the sufferers. This is the power of activism which infuses life in the dying democracy. The sleeping leaders and lawmakers come to life and fierce debates and discussions for the survival of democratic system begin all over the country.

Determined offensive required

Social activists in a democracy have to mount a determined offensive over issues affecting all walks of life like corruption, black money, dowry, tribal rights, atrocities on women etc. While social activism has for long been an important part of the worlds largest democracy, the trend got a boost from the anti-corruption movement of Shri Anna Hazare, who became the face of Indias war on corruption. Hazare fasted in Delhi thrice, forcing the government to take steps to unveil an independent body with powers to investigate and prosecute corrupt officials. Although the Jan Lokpal Bill is still to be fully operational, the Lokpal Bill has since been passed by the Government bowing to the demands of social activism.

Social activism gets instant support

Social activisms garner support of the masses for any just cause through media, social networking sites, Internet forums and SMSs. A rise in the awareness among students towards social activism after the Delhi Bus gang rape raised questions of good governance and sent chilling fear among the rapists. Entire nation stood as one on the issue of justice to the victim. Getting the reins of Delhi Government by Aam Aadmi Party is a result of emerging social activism and changing face of Indian youth who are more participatory now rather than silent spectators.

Need is for positive Activism

Such Activism has to be of positive and constructive nature. It should shun violence which is harmful for the society and economy. When this happens- many people get injured and there is a loss of national property as well. This in fact is detrimental to the survival of democracy.

The movements whether in Capital or in small towns and cities mark the dawn of a new revolution in India.
The intervention from social activist fills a vital vacuum in the public awakening.
We must sustain the movement till the change we are fighting for is there. Other-wise, relying on this symbolism becomes dangerous for further awakening in a society.
