
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli has launched the Center for Corporate Governance (CCG) on 13th June 2014 at Chennai. The inauguration was staged by Mr. Bharat Doshi (Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.). The main objective of the center is to conduct and promote research in the area of corporate governance
The Center will assist in research activities like organizing an annual conference on corporate governance, initiating & coordinating research projects and arranging research seminars & workshops. In the long-term, the CCG aims to conduct capacity building activities in the area of corporate governance and to play an active role in corporate governance policy through advocacy and intervention. Through this center, IIM Trichy will spread awareness about good corporate governance practices.
On the same day IIM Trichy organized its first corporate governance conference with Mr. Bharat Doshi (Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.) as the chief guest. Mr. M. Damodaran (IAS (Rtd.), Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Trichy) presided over the inaugural function.
Mr. Bharat Doshi presented the keynote address on Evolving Corporate Governance Practices in India. There was a panel discussion on Corporate Governance Regulation in India. Mr. Sampath Kumar (Former Editor, Business Line), Mr. Vivek Kulkarni (Managing Director, Brickwork Ratings), and Mr. V. Nagappan (Former Director, Madras Stock Exchange) presented their views on corporate governance regulation. There were total 15 papers presented in two-day conference. The conference was sponsored by BSE-IPF.
According to Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM Tiruchirappalli ‘IIM Trichy believes that an interaction between academia and industry will help to better understand the challenges in corporate governance. This conference is an attempt to provide such a platform. IIM Trichy plans to organize this conference on an annual basis and provide a venue for academia and industry to come together on this topic.’
IIM Trichy is located in Trichy - a city historically known for education, art and culture. It has three flagship programs: Post Graduate Program (PGP), Fellow Program in Management (FPM) and Post Graduate Program in Business Management (PGPBM). The institute is in its 4th year of operations and is in the process of building its permanent campus. The institute currently operates from the campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy.
